My sugar drops so I need to be prepared, if I feel hungry can I go to the locker and eat for example a half of sandwich ?

Does anyone do this, and is it allowed?

Does it depend on the test center?

You are allowed to take breaks in between testlets. You can go to the bathroom or eat a light snack. Be mindful of your time ,however, as your exam time keeps running in the background while you are on break.

I get low blood sugar also, so I have to preemptively have a snack or my thinking gets fuzzy. That has not been a problem. I keep a bar in my locker, and I just tell them, “I'm getting a snack out of my locker.” They don't seem to care, but I stay on the safe side and always tell them.

Eating half a sandwich might take up several minutes of your time. Remember – the clock keeps ticking!

Maybe one bite of a candy bar would boost your energy in 1 minute vs. the time it takes to eat a sandwich.

    Bottom line – HURRY!

Eat food that has low glycemic index , along with protein and other carbs before the exam.

Should help keep your sugar level stable. Talk to a doctor. Let the staff at prometric know that you intend to eat.

Baby carrots and a Core Power protein shake. Both easy to throw in your bag and give you the boost you need.

Your break should not exceed 10 minutes. you won't have access to the locker during break.

I kept a Monster in my locker during both of my exams. When I took a break I went to my locker, took it out, and chugged it. I didn't ask or tell anyone though maybe I should have…? Obviously Monster is not going to help your sugar levels remain stable, but nobody complained about me getting refreshments out of my locker. I also didn't have any notes, cell phones, or anything else that could be used as a study aid in my locker.

You guys seriously have sugar crashes within three hours? Are you guys diabetic? Can you bring a glucose tablet in the room?

I do have sugar crashes after eating breakfast….it sucks and I have never been diagnosed with diabetes. Thus when I do a morning test I take a pee break and then eat one or two granola bars.

I'm (self-diagnosed) hypoglycemic and definitely not diabetic, although I would be if I ate the standard American diet. I don't have blood sugar crashes, but slow declines in blood sugar, where I definitely notice the effects at a certain point. I eat well– low glycemic carbs with protein– all the time, and that lasts about 2-3 hours before I have to refuel.

Thank you everybody for your responses.

In case anyone has the same problem and looking for info, I called the prometric site in NY and was told that you can leave snacks in your locker and access them during your break, just make sure not to touch any notes or electronics.

I don't have diabetes either, but had hypoglycemia as a child which went away, and decided to come back to me as an adult…maybe it is something that will eventually turn into diabetes.

It seems strange that we wouldn't be able to last 3-4 hrs but I guess only someone that has this will understand.. it is such an awful feeling.

It also can be unpredictable, sometimes I can keep it stable and sometimes it just creeps up without warning. Obviously a sandwich would be time consuming, but just wanted to have a plan during the exam just in case. And as someone stated that fuzzy brain feeling it causes would make my brain useless during the exam, so better to take quick break.

It makes me feel better to read that others have this problem since I have never met anyone with this, and everyone that I am around seem to be able to go for hours without eating lol.

Thanks for everyone's input & good luck!
