Hi, I have a question about the Rule 2.7 Education in Lieu of Experience option for getting my CPA license in Colorado.

Starting in July 2015, Colorado is releasing this option.

I currently have 27 Accounting credit hours and 21 Business credit hours and qualified to sit for the exam (got my NTS) and will apply for the MBA in Accounting degree at University of Colorado, Colorado Springs to fulfill the education in lieu of experience requirement.

I was told that I would need Master’s, Doctoral, or Bachelor’s degree with 30 additional hours for that. I also heard that I would need total 45 semester hours in Accounting and 36 hours in General Business related subjects.

Q1. Since I have 27 credit hours in Accounting and 21 credit hours in Business, do I just need 18 credit hours in accounting and 15 credit hours in business?

Q2. Do I need graduate level credit hours or would it be okay to take necessary courses from community college?

Q3. If I get into the graduate program, do I need to get my MBA in Accounting “degree” to get my license before July 2015 or just taking classes would suffice the requirement? Would I need to maintain superb GPA?

Q4. If I take courses in summer and fall semesters, would it be safe to apply for the license in June (concerning the rule change in July 2015)?

    Please let me know 🙂

    Thank you!

I have very similar questions. Since I am a foreign candidate, my education certificates needs to be evaluated by FACS or an other similar agency. I am not sure how it is going to work out but keeping my fingers crossed. I suggest you talk to Nasba and they might give you some valuable information.
