Employee Referrals

Does anyone know how employee referrals work? Someone that I know submitted my resume into the employee referral database at one of the larger regional firms and I have no idea what to expect. Am I just supposed to hope someone calls me? I have no public accounting experience but 10 years of other experience and so I am just looking for an entry level position. I made that clear to the person that referred me, but I am afraid my resume will be overlooked since I have 10 years of experience. I am sure many people would assume I am not ok with entry level. If anyone knows how this works, please share. Thanks!

You need to have that person (provided they're willing) poke the HR people to get them moving.

I submitted someone for my firm and got a rejection email; I hit up local recruiting, who ended up interviewing him and making an offer

@acamp do you mind to refer me. I am seriously seeking to get into public accounting too and I do not have any insider to refer me. I have submitted several applications and keep getting rejection emails. In fact, I contacted three companies last week and got a denial within 24 hours after I submitted my application.

@ Lindrobe, I have been following your posts. I live south of Indianapolis. I heard there will be a career fair at IU, indianapolis in September mainly targeted for accounting and business graduates. You may want to look at that option, I know a lot of the public accounting firms come there including Crowthe. If it is not too far from where you reside, you may want to give it a try.

Thanks, Nigercpa. Unfortunately, I live in the South Bend area, so Indianapolis is about 3 hours from me. I will look to see if the IU South Bend campus is having an event though. Crowe is where I got the employee referral in at.
