I’ve only taken one audit class ever. It was actually the class that I had left to take in order qualify to sit for this exam. I didn’t like it or hate it, but I’m wondering how you guys handled a similar situation to mine. Mind you I have never worked in Audit either. I’ve gotten through the first chapter of Wiley text so far.

Any perspectives from those who have a similar experience to mine would be greatly appreciated.

As long as you have the determination and you have the ability to read then you are fine.

I took all four of my CPA exams right out of college and I wasn't even an Accounting major at my school.

You'll do fine as long as you put the work in.

The review material will give you enough knowledge to pass the exam. I did not take an Audit class in college and managed to pass the exam. All of the material was brand new to me and it took me a while to grasp it but I was able to pull through. You should be ok.

    Good points. I appreciate that.

SammyJ, I actually have a minor in Accounting and a major in Finance, but I always worked in accounting. I'm still not sure why I didn't do those extra few classes for the major.

Anyway, just curious, what made you take this exam? Switching fields?

I wanted to offer a different response than the others…I think audit is a tricky exam because it involves a lot of choose the “best” answers rather than having an obvious correct answer. I took audit after taking 1 class in college and not having any real audit experience and I failed. I then re-took about a year later after getting through a busy season in Big 4 and I passed. I think it all made more sense to me once I knew how to apply the information.

That being said, I am sure many people pass without any experience just fine. I just wanted to offer a different experience for you to consider as you prepare for the exam. Thankfully time management is not really an issue on this section, so that certainly helps!

    Good luck!

    BEC: 79 - April 2011
    FAR: 78 - May 2011
    AUD: 81 - May 2012
    REG: 79 - October 2012
    Ethics: Passed - March 2013
    I am finally DONE!

    Spur,

I actually was an accounting minor at my school too. Our school didn't offer an Accounting major, but that was something I was kinda eyeing from the get go. The CPA was something that I knew I would go after right after college. Even though not haivng Audit experience would make the exams harder for me, I just grinded it out. I even failed my first attempt. I've known certain people who would get high 70s on their REG, BEC and FAR, but got like a 95 in Auditing because they have worked as an auditor for like 15 years. So experience does give you a huge boost. But by no means is the AUD or any of the other exams for that matter drastically hurt your chances of passing. Just got put in the effot and you'll do great. good luck!
