    Hi guys:

I want to know about your experience using the Wiley CPA Excel study guide, specifically for Regulation. It is worth it? Is a good complement?

    Thanks!

@Boricuainthehouse: I used Wiley CPAExcel supplemented with WTB. I got 89 with an 9-week preparation. I didn't have any US Tax Federal courses as I had international educational background. (Full-time Job + Kid + Family + Studying)

Is it worth it? – I believe so. You can do it! Do more MCQs if you can…

Anything worth doing is probably not easy, but the rewards are worth it. (unknown)

Just to add to Fil-Am's comment…

When I got Wiley CPAExcel last fall, there was also a discount code floating around. It gave free one-year access to the Wiley Test Bank for each part in addition to any student discount for the course. I personally think WTB is a great addition to the program.

Thank you Jaane. I am using Wiley and Ninja test banks and Becker book and final review book for Regulation. I am also considering to use Wiley and Ninja for audit

Fil-Am what was your study schedule like? how many hours a day and how many sections of how many chapters of cpaexcel per day? Also did you read the book only or watch the videos?

    FAR: 78*, 75
    REG: 76*, 85
    BEC: 79*, 76
    AUD: 79*, 93

All scores expired, let's try this again.

    FAR - 78*
    AUD - 66, 79
    REG - 73, 76
    BEC - 79

@ahugemistake – Actually, I didn't read the entire book and never did. I only read few topics that I found difficult. I just watched the videos and wrote my own notes. After watching the videos, I did the homework MCQs for the said topic.

    Below was my schedule:

Mondays – Fridays: Studied an hour during my lunch break. Sometimes I couldn't study depending on my daily workload. Studied 2-3 hours at night. I usually took a break on Friday or Monday nights. I just went on my own pace. Using the CPAExcel Planner, I always set the exam date 2 weeks before my actual exam. As you can see below that I did have 2 weeks final review by doing as many MCQs as I could (90%) while reading my notes (10%) when I seemed to forget.

Saturdays – Sundays: Studied at least 4 hours per day. Whenever I felt like I was burnt, I took a day off not to study.

    Final Review: 3 weeks

    1st week – I re-typed my notes

Last two weeks were mostly doing MCQs again topic by topic for the 2nd time then did at least 2 simulations. I did the MCQs on WTB twice. 🙂 and I wished I did take a look at all the SIMS on WTB for REG.

I had used Wiley CPA Excel for the other three exams with great success. That was not the case with Reg–granted I didn't go through all of the material prior to taking Reg. I switched over to Becker for my second Reg attempt and I'll find out the scores in a month. I felt like Becker was better at isolating important material and the examples were clearer. Although, it could be the case that having gone through some material once with CPA Excel and then a second time with Becker, it was only then I was able to understand the material.

I would not recommend CPA excel for Reg unless you plan to watch the videos, read the book, and do all the questions–that, of course, should be sufficient.

I found the Wiley book extremely helpful for REG. I read the tax chapters and did the MCQ then hit up the Ninja test bank hard until the exam. I like the way the Wiley books are written better than the Becker or the old CPA Excel books. I really think it helped me understand the bigger picture of taxes before getting into the test bank.
