Hey guys, I essentially can go 1 of 2 routes for an entry level position.

    1) FSO BAP- Rotational program focusing on business advisory in the financial services sector.

    2) IT Advisory (Risk)- Basically equates to IT audit.

Does anyone have any input on either of these two sectors (career potential, exit opps, learning value, etc)? My instincts say FSO will provides better exit opps, but part of me thinks being a CPA in an IT field gives a leg up on the competition (and it pays better out of the gate). Any input at all would be greatly appreciated!

the FSO people work really hard. I'm going into IT audit, and I don't know much about FSO. I just know some people who interned in that group.

I started in IT Audit and did that for a little under 2 years and then moved to an IT consulting group. Granted I'm at a different big 4 firm but the IT group tends to pay a little better because it takes a little more of a specialized background and there is a shortage of high performers in this area.

I would say the biggest factor should be what you want to do long term. If you don't mind doing IT as a career, go for it. If you want to stick to more of an accounting role then go the other direction.

Yah, Snowbrick hit on the head. Those two positions are different enough that they'll take you in very different paths 10 years down the line. Hell, even after 1 year, your career path will be very different.

Do you actually know what IT Audit is? If not then you should go BAP.

I am starting in FSO BAP this September and I've heard that it has great exit opportunities that go well with my personal interests, such as placement in elite MBA programs. So I guess it really depends on what your ultimate goal is. 🙂
