Hi,
I failed Aud last window with 67.I used Becker review.After seeing posts i'm worried if i could pass it next time.I thought i aced the exam first time but failed. i'm confused how to deal with it second time.Please help me to come out of this depressed feeling about retaking it again.Is becker good enough for auditing?..I didn't even receive my score report yet from CA board.

offlineMemberI passed AUD the first time with only Becker review and scored an 82. Make sure you really use the software how its meant to be used. I did all of the homework problems up to 90% correct, then I went back to them later and did them all again two or three times, I did all the simulations and I also used the flashcards a lot for AUD. I find the final reviews helpful as well.
You can definitely come back and pass it, try not to get discouraged, it happens all the time! You've just got to get back at it and knock it out so you NEVER have to do it again, its a good feeling!

offlineMemberjpmcom, I failed auditing too, with a 72. I was so annoyed especially since I went into the test very confident. You just have to suck it up and retake it, at least you have a good base of knowledge for the next time you take it. the problem for me was that after I took auditing I started studying for BEC and I am taking BEC on Monday and retaking auditing in November. (Just hope I didn't forget everything I already learned).

offlineMemberI'm in CA. I didn't take audit last window, but I haven't received my score report from my REG score, nor has my boyfriend received any of his from last window, so I don't think they are out yet. I blame it on those furllough days! :-)
I've heard a lot of people complaining that they feel like on many questions there are 2 "correct answers" I think its pretty common to feel that way!
As for the simulations, I feel like all you can do is go over the ones in Becker.They can pretty much throw anything at you in those things so its difficult to prepare for them. The writing section is important, and has a fair amount of points on grammar, structure and spelling etc, so make sure even if you dont' know exactly what the answer is, put together a well organized memo and it should help you snag a few points.
I had memorized the basic audit report from the becker flashcards/book, and then knew the variations and was able to manipulate the basic report according. I made sure I knew where certain paragraphs went (some before the opinion some after etc.)

offlineMemberI failed AUD in the last window with a 67 as well. I re-take it on Monday the 19th. I have literally been through all the becker homework/supplemental questions 5 times. I just took a practice test and got an 83, am I ready, or do I just know the questions? Is anyone else feeling this way.

offlineMemberI would make sure that you do them in different orders, make sure there is some time in between when you redo the problems.
Also, be sure that you read the explanations and understand what the answer actually is even if you picked the correct answer.

I got a 74...I'm thinking I will hit that site hard this weekend and try to get up to around an 85. If I score higher on this that REG (I'm in tax), I will be a little peeved!

offlineMemberI am going through the same thing in preparing again for AUD. I know almost all the questions by heart, in Becker, Gleim, Bisk, etc. They are almost all the same questions from AICPA. I have been trying to find different questions from other sources but no luck.
So now I am not sure if I just know the questions or know the material?

I also found it was a good check to figure out if I knew the topic in the chapters if I could do the simulation related to that chapter (not the research or writing, those are a free for all on the actual test, I never study them).

offlineMemberYou know...I have no particular explanation for that! The first time I know he didnt' prepare enough, his last score was a 74. He scores in the mid-high 80's in the tax portion and then struggles with the law portion.
Now he has daily study schedules that seriously emphasize the law sections, so hopefully it will get knocked out this time around! haha

I am also a nervous wreck myself. I actually have a total of 4 chances to pass the AUD exam before I start to lose credit on my other 3 passed exams. I have already blown one of the 4. I am taking my 2nd exam this Oct. 27. I am really nervous about it. I keep having this nightmare that I will have to repeat my other exams even though I already passed them.
I am a complete bundle of nerves. I did get a 74 which is somewhat encouraging. I think it was the sims that killed me and it is impossible to prepare for them.Posted 2 years ago # -

offlineMemberI am preparing now for AUD and I am using Becker. Chapter 5 discusses sampling in fair detail. On p. A5-15 they have the formulas for estimation. Has anybody here bothered to memorize these formulas?

Also, I did not go through the rules of independence and that hurt me. I just need that one more point. did you do the sims in Wiley, ikbcpa2b?

offlineMember@Onepointaway - I feel your pain, I failed AUD with a 74 as well. Leaving the exam I was very confident that I passed but ended up one point shy. I passed FAR with an 84 and just sat for REG. I have started supplementing Becker with Wiley as well. I think that Becker does a fairly good job with the multiple choice, but the simulations were not even close to what I had. I am retaking AUD on the 5th, hopefully I can find that last point somewhere! Good luck everyone.

I got in the 80s on both Becker Final Exams, so was hoping I would be in good shape. I ended up marking about 5 questions on the 1st testlet and between 6 and 8 on the 2nd and 3rd. Is that common?

I did the becker live classes and pretty much followed the study plan that they set up for you. I would estimate that in addition to the class time I spent roughly 100 hours over the course of 6 weeks studying. My downfall was the simulations. I was caught off guard, I do not think that the becker simulations were helpful for AUD. Hopefully I will be more prepared this time.

That sounds fairly common. It depends on how you interpret marking though. I mark any question where I can't immediately pick out the answer, usually within 30 to 45 seconds. This ends up with me marking usually between 8 to 10 answers per testlet, and the rest I know cold (no doubt about it). I also take a "first pass" on any that seem particularly challenging or lengthy; I don't bother answering these until I finish the rest. Those usually end up being between 3 or 4 per testlet. Thus marking a question can vary from person to person; for me, marked questions usually aren't troublesome unless they fall into the "first pass" category.

offlineMemberI felt similarly. If you're only marking 5-8 per testlet, then that means you feel very confident about 75-80% of the MCQs, which is pretty good. You also have to figure that you're at least going to get a couple of the marked questions right (unless they are complete guesses), especially if you can narrow it down to two answers. I'd definitely say that's something to feel good about.

offlineMemberFor me, I think I marked about 6 on the first one, then it went up to 10 on my second testlet, and I thinked I marked 15 on my third one. It makes sense because I think I had harder testlets after the first. For the ones I marked, they were ones that I either wanted to double check or was less than 50% sure on. I definitely had to guess on more than a few of them. Surprisingly, I didn't do as bad as I thought I did. I definitely marked more on audit than any other section though.

offlineMemberThat makes me feel better! This was my last exam (waiting on both FARE and Audit scores), and I would have liked to have walked out of Audit feeling a lot better than I did. I was surprised to mark between 5-8 on each testlet, because I got in the 80s on the Becker Final Exams. You got a good score though, so I am glad to see there is hope!

offlineMemberbig4luv, I used Becker for all 4 parts and I feel that if you have a solid understanding of the concepts from school/experience, the review material is enough to prepare you for the exam. As others have said it before, Becker does not teach you the concepts - it just offers a condensed view and memorization tools that will help you while taking the actual exams.

I passed AUD using only Becker. I did the MC questions over and over until my eyes bled. I put in right at 90 hours including the live classes (can see blog link in my signature for the day by day how I did it). Becker did a great job on the MC questions. I think there were 3 questions I think that I hadn't covered directly. The simulations were a crap shoot in my opinion. They can't have hundreds of sims in the Becker material and that would be about the only way to really be prepared. The look and feel of the sims are covered by the Becker sims though. My biggest fear/weakness was the written. I did horrid on one (in my opinion) and ok on the other. The one I did ok on had nothing to do with auditing or even accounting, but I knew the situation since I've actually dealt with it in my work, so I felt good writing on it.

offlineMemberI took Audit in August and got a 69. So I bought the 2009 Wiley material and listened to the Audio MP3 while driving to and from work (75 minutes one way.)
I signed back up for Audit and took it on November 30th. It was hard, but I felt good.....really good...about passing it. I felt like I NAILED the multiple choice questions. My second testlet was difficult so I knew I did well on the first. The Sims were good. I answered both of them completely taking my time on the writtens.
This was the best exam I've taken so far...I was hoping for a score in the 80's. I would have been surprised if I got a 90. But I KNEW I had passed.....
GOT MY SCORE LAST FRIDAY.......74 (SEVENTY FOUR!!!) What happened??!! I don't know where I went wrong.

I feel like I know how you feel. I took AUD in April and felt the same. I scored a 73 after a 70+ day wait. However, I wasn't able to retake for over 4 months, I spent all that time in between studying for FAR. I spent 3 weeks doing basically a cram studying nearly 20 hours a week for AUD after my FAR exam. I was able to raise my score to an 81. Do not let how you feel get you down. You are so close, I know the next time will put you over the top. I used Becker material. I studying the material from beginning to end and then concentrated on the weak areas based on the report while reviewing the other areas. Do not think your age has anything to do with it. I am 49, with full time job and six kids. If I can do this and I will complete this exam. So can you. I also feel like you, I wish I had taken this exam long ago. offlineMembercpawannabee, i am an auditor & it took me 3 tries to pass. i made a 69, 73, and then finally passed with an 86. i think the key is just going through MCQ and highlighting the areas you are weak in & hitting that material hard. then, review everything that is covered in your text & just keep doing multiple choice questions. i recognized a lot of questions word for word on the exam. and take as much time as you need on the exam day. i spent 2 hours in the exam the first 2 tries and then on my last exam, i stayed until there were only 4 or 5 minutes left. the time we are given for audit is so much compared to the other tests, and I thought if they are going to give me this much cushioning in time, i am going to use it to my benefit and check every answer i mark & reread every simulation answer i give. it must have worked b/c my score increased 13 points between august and november. hope this helps! good luck! do you have any tips on REG? I'm taking it in less than a month and feel COMPLETELY overwhelmed!

offlineMemberI found out by taking AUD three times that there is a reason they give you 4.5 hours. AUD question are tricky. It is easy to get to two answers but you have to take time to get to 1 answer. Also, the average comparible raw score for candidates passing is 79 - 80 in AUD while they are 70 - 71 for FAR. Remember the research function is sims can be used to help in the other sim tabs.
