I found out this morning that I failed AUD miserably…

Checked advisory score over and over again hoping to see a different score….Hoping NASBA punched wrong number…

    I really don’t understand what I did wrong…

I studied with CPAexcel, listened/watched all the video lectures, worked on all the MCQs, revisiting all the incorrect answers over and over again.

What I’m I missing here? What should I do now? I long do I have to study before the retake?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

    So depressed…I can’t think straight…

This might be a stupid/ignorant question but I can use my NTS again for retake, right?

@wonny1108 to my knowledge, you cannot reuse your NTS for a particular section you've already taken (even if your NTS isn't expired). It's a bummer, but you have to re-apply for the section, and purchase a new NTS.

    AUD - 77
    FAR - 78

    REG - 5/28/16

Do I have to wait until the current NTS to expire to apply for another NTS? What is the usual retake process?

Audit was the most difficult one for me. I had to take it 5 times! I undermined the exam for the 1st 3 times then studied hard (spent ~140 hours) on the 4th then really hard on the 5th (~190 hours) during our 10K filing time period (it was stressful!).

Some people have given me great advice when I posted my frustration on getting 72 3 times. Please visit the link below; hope you find it helpful. I found moniker's advice most helpful. I also read all texts and solved all questions in the book for my weak areas (internal control and audit evidence); this helped a lot as well.

If I can do it, you can do it too!

@wonny1108 No, you don't have to wait for your NTS to expire. But you do have to wait 48 hrs or so before you can re-apply for the same exam. You can call your state board if you have specific questions on that timing.

@cmason.runner86 thanks! I'm debating whether to just start studying for my BEC or to retake AUD…

wonny, I'm with you. I opened up the site this morning and saw “74 – FAILED.” I was one of those crazy folks who took 2 exams in the same window. I passed BEC and failed AUD. I studied 9 days (90 hours) for BEC and 4.5 months (190+ hours) for AUD. It sucks but what I'm encouraged about is that I did pass one of the exams (I see you've passed BEC too) and when you look at the bottom of everyone's posts, so many have failed so many times only to come back and eventually pass them.

The posts I read from people here are overwhelmingly supportive and just reading everyone's signatures with their scores illustrates their incredible resolve. I wish you best of luck on the test round. You CAN do this.

    AUD – 74
    BEC – 80

@5TIronman Thank you so much for the encouraging words….Juggling work home kids and study was a huge challenge for me. I never thought this would be an easy journey but the reality hit me even harder than I imagined…What is your plan for the retake?

Hey wonny, you're welcome. As for me, I applied for another NTS to retake AUD and to take FAR this morning immediately after I saw my score. I plan to start studying for AUD again tomorrow morning and keep it fresh. I'm hoping to retake AUD the first week in April (provided I get my NTS quickly), then scheduling FAR the latest I can in May.

I have 2 small kiddos myself so I understand the juggling. Agin, keep the faith, you can certainly do this.

    AUD – 74
    BEC – 80

Not to sound like to sound all negative, but I am beginning to doubt the validity of the ninja mcqs.

I took AUD on 2/29 and failed with a 64. I was trending 83 and my average score was an 71. I had previously failed AUD using Ninja MCQs and thought perhaps I had memorized the questions so this time around I did @1100 questions, and almost all questions were done only once.

I have never worked in AUD or done any true “accounting work” so that could be why I have so much difficulty with AUD and FAR.

big k, are you planning on using only the ninja stuff or are you planning to supplement it with other material? I'm using Becker (I know, very expensive) but they seem pretty good. But I just missed and am thinking about doing the ninja stuff after I go back through the Becker stuff as a supplement just to stretch the brain a little bit.

As a side note, I got a 75 on Becker's final exam and was expecting the 10-pt curve that everyone talks about. I ended up with a 74. The TBS just killed me. I'm going to study the heck out of those and practice as many as I can this time around. I underestimated just how hard they'd be and I breezed through them during my first go-around. At 40% of the test, stupid mistake… but I won't make that again.

Are there specific areas that you're struggling with that folks on here might be able to help you?

Just found out that I scored a 74 on AUD for the second time in a row. So disappointing. Can't wait to get my score report again and see that I was comparable on MC and SIMS to passing candidates. Going to renew the ninja mcq's and hit it again the first of April. YAY!

Wonny, In you first post you mention watching videos and doing tons of MCQ. The heavy lifting in AUD comes from understanding the concepts, reading good notes then making your own notes in your own words (even drawing pictures) so you are certain understand the spiderweb of concepts.

I went heavy on this and only did 30-50 MCQ a day leading up to the exam, although I loved AUD because the MCQ were so easy to belt out compared to REG….could even do them watching TV and in the middle of a conversation…I probably should have done more MCQs, but at least I knew the theory behind the questions.

I really had an ahh haaa moment when I studied Becker's final review 2 weeks before…it sort of joined everything together.

Oh and the “Becker” final exam had me at about 87 on the MCQ and about 67 on the SIMS, so I ended up doing better on the actual exam.

@Nessie Thank you for your advise! This is not my first time taking the AUD exam. I took it 4 years ago and failed with better score…What i don't understand is…I had those ah hah! moments and thought i understood more than 4 years ago. I took the time to really understand and also, my work is somewhat closely related to audit so it was easier to understand…SIMs was brutal…there was no way I could prepare for it! i had 2h 30min left after the MCQs….I used the research tools but it didn't help at all.
My next plan for retake is to go through the Ninja notes and try to grasp what I studied for the past couple of weeks and more MCQs…Any advise from our Ninja folks is always welcome! I really need this to be over and done with.,,,
