Failed AUD Again

Just got my AUD back and only got 55 which is the same score for the last time I took it. I did my practice exam at least 3 or 4 times and got average of 80 or above before I schedule an exam. I felt really confident about the exam and also spent extra two weeks to tune up my skills. I felt good after I took the exam and thought the questions weren’t that bad. However, I was suprised that I failed again. What could go wrong? Should I pratice till I get the score average of 90? Please advice.

That seems hard to believe…are you sure you didn't enter the same nts number?

    BEC (11/10) 77 (Bisk)
    FAR 7/2 - 63 11/5 - 80 (Yeager - Fail, Becker - Pass)
    Reg (08/11) - 78 (Yeager)
    Aud - 11/29 - 78(Yeager)

    @rgibson3rd

I am in CA, so I have to log-in to the account with CA Board of Accountancy to check my score. I don't need to type in the score since it is posted there as soon as I log-in.

Genie, what type of review materials are you using? Just curious.

    REG - 79
    BEC - 75
    AUD - 84
    FAR - 75
Done...Thank you Wiley Books, Wiley Test Bank, and the NINJA Notes

@CPA Genie, I have been in the same boat as you. Only it was with REG. I scored a 59, then studied my butt off for 5 weeks, only to increase my score by ONE freaking point! I re-evaluated my study methods and realized that I had memorize either the answer to the question, or how to answer/work through that particular question. Can I ask what your plan of attack has been thus far? I ended up having to purchase an additional test bank since I was so familiar with the questions in my review program.

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58

@CPAgenie: I think if you retake an exam until you get things correct, you may fool yourself into a false sense of security. I find myself somewhat memorizing answers (unintentionally) even in the homework questions when I get them wrong and rework them. When you take a practice exam, take your first score on that particular exam as an indication of how well you understand the material rather than the second, third, or fourth retake (by then, you have undoubtedly memorized a fair amount).

I haven't had to do this, but if you need more practice I would suggest buying some test banks. I believe Wiley has been highly recommended by a few users on this site for that practice. At a 55, you definitely have some deficiencies in understanding the subject matter. FYI many who pass their exams have mentioned they score in the 60s-70s on the practice tests (1st time, anyway). Good luck!

    REG 88 (11/08/11)

I thought I knew the AUD material really well… I scored in the 80s for the first and second practice final but I only got a 65… For FAR practice final, I scored only in the low 70s but still managed to pass.

I am at lost for words, which I could have a better idea of how I actually failed.. Good luck studying!

@ NECain, I used Wiley's testing bank and focus note (both are 2011 version) to pass other three sections of exam except audit.

@Peanut, I went through all the questions on the testing bank at least once. I prace and review the once I did wrong at least 3 times. Went through focus notes to memorize main points at least 3 times. Wrote my own notes and flash cards for the questions I constantly did wrong. I did that above within one month period to keep my memory fresh. What other testing bank your might be using besides Wiley?

@See Pee A, I am thinking getting another testing bank as practice. Also, I might get Roger's cram course for AUD to sharp my concepts on AUD.

I think maybe people are doing well that curve your score done. Do you think that could be a possibility.

Yea, i guess curve is the only way that I failed. Not to brag, but I was 4.0 accounting minor at a great school. When I finished AUD in 2 hours and 30 min, I really thought I passed.

I guess the competition is really heating up for AUD! haha, I guess we both have to study harder 🙁 Wish you the best CPA Genie!

I guess missing two to three questions for different subjects in AUD can really hurt the scores. Let's keep our spirit high!

Genie – passing AUD can be tricky. Usually the average passing score is higher on this test, so it's more difficult to pass.

I used Becker the first time and failed with 71. I thought I was close.

I used Becker again and also purchased Yaeger course and Wiley MCQ. I thought I knew everything in the book. I passed, but with a 76.

I would start fresh and really read the questions slowly. One word here and there have completely separate meanings and change an answer. MCQ over and over is the best method to study AUD.

    REG - PASS
    BEC - PASS
    AUD - PASS
    FAR - PASS
    CA ETHICS - PASS

    Tin Man,

Thank you for your advice. I will expand my study methods.

Honestly? I think you need to do a lot more MCQ's than that . To give you some idea, on my 3rd and final go at AUD, I did over 2000 MCQ's. It was agonizing and overwhelming but it paid off. I did the Wiley book questions, the Wiley test bank online, Cpareviewforfree.com, googled previously released aicpa questions and downloaded a test bank onto my kindle. I did them in the early morning, on my lunch break and for endless hours at night and on weekends. I am positive I wouldn't have passed otherwise.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

What Audit MCQ test banks do you think are best?

Everything said here completely resonates: leaving the test feeling you did great but failing, and identifying working through MCQs as how to improve. I find it odd that I would identify AUD as my strongest subject, yet the only test I'm having trouble passing.

    What I've done so far:

    – Wiley Books

    – Q1 released questions

    Not sure between:

    Wiley test bank

    – Roger cram course

    – Becker Final Review

    BEC - 88
    AUD - 69, 74, 93
    FAR - 78
    REG - 79
