    Failed FAR on the first try with a 70. I don’t want to give up yet, but I find it very difficult to study the same material the second time around. I used BECKER and thought they were helpful. My software is now expired and I refuse to re-purchase because they are way too expenisve. Does anyone suggest Wiley? Their material is so cheap…but it scares me! I don’t want to study all the wrong material on my 2nd time around.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you

    Wiley is good, don't be thrown off by the price. Becker costs so much because they “wrote” the book, and also the lectures.

    Personally, it sounds like you are close enough that you should just keep the Becker book (since you are already familiar with the format, and where all the topics and rules are located) and purchase some supplementary question banks (Wiley CD, Gleim, or whatever else people here have used). I would only study the Wiley book if there are certain topics that you don't feel comfortable with even after studying Becker – otherwise, I wouldn't restudy things in the Wiley format.

    Stay strong, keep working! It isn't supposed to be easy.

    Agree with dwadecpa.

    When you get your analysis – it should help yo utarget the areas you can focus on. You are soooo close.

    Good luck!

    How prepared did you feel going into the exam?

    AUD - 81, BEC - 74, 80, FAR - 82, REG - 81
    Done!

    Doesn't Becker have the guarantee? But, I don't think you need the lectures so much if you have the book with your notes in it for a second review. Just practice! Also I maybe try setting your clock back on your computer to see if the license still looks it up. The software doesn't phone home so it must go off some OS clock.

    FAR 92 - AUD 91 - REG 94 - BEC 86

    jessmile14, you're almost there….

    I think Wiley is enough to get you over the hump!

    I used Yaeger Home Study with the Wiley CPA Review Book.

    I sat through the lectures 2 times and took alot of notes.

    There is more material in the Wiley book than what was covered in the Yaeger lectures and course out-line. And the assigned MCQs were way less than what was in the Wiley book. So I only felt prepared on what I was told to know and NOT alot of other material in the book.

    BEC=77, FAR=78, REG=73,74,80, AUD=70,69, 84 DONE!

    jessmile14,

    Don't feel so bad I failed FAR for the third time…actually did worse than the second time, but I think I will give it one more try and see what happens. At that point I will decide if this is the right profession for me?

    cpaindiana, you're also very close.

    What review course are you using? You may want to change to a new one.

    I would put off BEC and concentrate on FAR!

    Once you get over FAR, you're pretty much in….the rest aren't as tough as FAR!

    BEC=77, FAR=78, REG=73,74,80, AUD=70,69, 84 DONE!

    NJCPA2B,

    On the first two I used Becker…this last one Yeager. I felt I understood the Yeager material better and I liked the way it is presented compared to Becker. Not sure what happend this time??

    I have spent the last three weeks studing BEC because I was hoping for a 75 in FAR. The BEC so far is a little easier for me to understand. My plan is to take BEC 7/23 and pass (give me a much needed confidence boost) and then go right into studying for FAR again and take it at the end of August.

    cpaindiana, your plan makes sense!

    BEC is tough, but way less material than FAR.

    For BEC, I really hit hard IT and Business Structure….I did all the MCQs 4x. Make sure you memorize and know all the formulas backwards and forwards. Practice writing them all down on paper a couple of days before the exam. And make sure you keep track of your speed during the exam and always guess “b” if you have no idea….

    For FAR, I did the lectures 2x, and ALL the MCQs 3 times. I really new well what was on the course out-line. I think I got very lucky passing FAR on the first time, because I surely thought that I had failed badly…!

    Don't give up on these exams ever…..you can do it!

    BEC=77, FAR=78, REG=73,74,80, AUD=70,69, 84 DONE!

    I just found out I failed FAR for the first time – made a 71 (took exam on Apr 13 – so must have had a new simulation). No confidence now – My Becker software has expired. I passed all other sections but BEC just expired. So now I'm back to only 50% passed. Just went to register for FAR and noticed that NASBA website now is charging an application fee for TN of $70 – so total exam fee is $288! What is up with that? Also I had to answer questions on employment,etc – this was much more detailed than my previous requests for new NTS. Also since Becker has expired – any suggestions on what software to use? I know there are numerous questions/comments here – but I'm at a loss as to what I should do.

    Waiting this late to request another NTS for the State of Tenn – there is probably no way I can schedule late August. Any suggestions???? I want out of this circle by 12/31/2010!!!

    77, man you're very close to getting out by the end of this summer…….

    My advice, get Yaeger Home Study! It comes with the Wiley book and Wiley CD for more MCQs. Yaeger has great video lectures.

    I passed BEC and FAR on my first try! If I can do it, you can do it! Use your discount and get Yaeger…

    Good luck

    Thank you guys!!!! You are all so motivating!!!!!

    I'm going to continue reading the becker book. Before my software expired, I printed all the questions (I know it sounds crazy but I did lol). I'll go through the questions again and review the book. I never reviewed the simulations but maybe I'll get that exposure on the WILEY software. I just hope that using the 2009 BECKER book/questions won't set me back.

    77cpawannabe- requesting a NTS now is more than enough time…you'll be able to sit for it in August. That's my plan as well. You are 50% there…I wouldn't worry about the price of sitting for the exam…it will pay off when you are certified!!!

    I have the world record for failing the CPA exam! Stick with it. I passed all 4 parts using just the Wiley books. I hate to say it…but anger is the best motivation! Get mid-evil !!!!!!

    The thing that I really loved (sarcasm!) is when I would have a conversation with someone and tell them that I was an accountant, and as you can probably guess….the next question is always “are you a CPA?” I hated so much to say No, Kind of, almost…..etc…

    Study harder, study more, no Seinfeld, the Office or Sportscenter!!!!

    The Wiley books are good but very long. There seems to be more MC questions than you would need. I would do every other question and read the explanations the 1st time through, then do the other odd# MC questions during my week long cram session right before the exam, just in case I forgot what I studied 2 months ago.
