Falling Behind

I’ve been following the Self Study Becker for FAR and should take the exam the first week of July. At this point in the program I should be plowing through F-5 and F-6. I have kept up with the lectures and have gone back through and taken notes. The last two weekends I’ve had family obligations and have not gotten as much done as I would have liked. My homework is what seems to be suffering. I fell behind in F-3 and F-4, and now have quite a bit for 5 and 6 due. Should I slow down and go back through and complete the homework, or fight through and catch up on the problems in the last two weeks?

I would probaby become as familiar with as much material as you can and then leave a week to 10 days to drill as many MCQs as you can. If you become too bogged down in one or two sections, you'll find yourself rushing through 3 or 4 sections the last week or two…

    AUD - 51, 80
    REG - 84
    FAR - 15, 29, 55, 80
    BEC - 65, 72, 69, 76 (expired), 83

Taking FAR for the 2nd time, but I'm quickly running out of time. I've already pushed the date back 3 weeks to save myself $250+, but as of now, it's been a long time since I did Chapters 1-3, I'm good on 4-6, currently in 7, test is in 12 days and I have part of 7, & 8-10 to do. I basically got partway through the material for the 1st test and got a 55 (better than I expected, but obviously nothing to be proud of!).

I have a hard time finding which chapters (subjects) are tested the heaviest (some say Gov./NP). But I know I need to review 1-4, and definitely need to get through 7-10.

I can get about 2-3 hours in weekdays after work, and 4-6 weekend days. My 18 month window is approaching and I do NOT want to re-take REG; if I fail this one, it's definitely going to expire.

I realize this is the result of my procrastination, but I'm looking for ideas, and maybe a confidence booster (maybe a success story?) Does anyone have suggestions on how to approach this with so little time? Thanks to all the nice people on this site, I've never seen a negative word!

Have you passed AUD and BEC but they're not in your signature?

It's going to be tough but not impossible. If you have any sick or vacation time now is the time to use it and give yourself the best chance.

Thanks for the response! No AUD or BEC yet, those are after FAR; hoping to take tomorrow off as well as Friday, and one more day next week. that should give me a total of about 27-30 hours. Just started the Gov/NP section, hoping to have those done shortly, then I'm going to pump out some practice tests next week to see where I lie.

    Much appreciated!

When does your REG expire? Do know you have to pass FAR, BEC AND AUD before that date or you will lose it?

REG is up 11/30/15. I figure if I can get FAR done (fingers crossed) 8/14 (score released 8/25), I'll have appx. 1.5 months (each) for BEC & AUD. I am not going to let myself slip on those, not a chance after this mess!

I don't exactly have a success story but I'm in the same boat. I did lectures 1-8, but barely touched the homework yet. I took off from now until the exam (8/28). I'm just going to try to give 8 hours a day to the homework, writing notes, etc. Honestly, I did that (concentrated 3 week study) for REG and got a better score than I did on BEC, where I studied steadily for 8 weeks and did the becker material study plan and went through mult choice 4x.

    AUD: Pass
    REG: Pass
    BEC: Pass
    FAR: Pass
    DONE!

Wow, 8 hours a day! I can't retain anything after a cumulative of 4-5 hours a day, broken up into 1.5-2 hour sessions. I got through nearly everything and started reviewing yesterday, and it's like this: “I actually learned this stuff? Where did the knowledge go?”

I'm nervous, but I've come to the realization that it's got to happen one way or another, so there's no use beating myself up if I fail. I'm going to go over a few other things after work today, and just pass over all the notes I've taken for FAR tomorrow, and keep my head up for Friday (8/14).

paintedfox: looks like you've got enough time to really get some good review in. And judging by your REG score, I have a feeling you got this in the bag! Best wishes!

Well, you know what they say about plans…. Ug, i had food poisoning for 2 days so I am 2 days behind my master brilliant plan… LOL. I have revised my plan and as long as I can stick to it I will feel good about sitting. Notice I didn't say pass, but I will at least feel like I have a chance and tried. So I did 4 hours today so far, taking a break and I'll do 4 more. There are some topics I feel good about and some I don't. I just plan on keep writing the things that I'm shaky on over and over and doing MC. I just want to stick to my plan, honestly, I really just want to feel like I tried and didn't give up.

@BenPitt, OMG, I totally agree, and that's part of why I almost think doing concentrated study is better for me, I did this stuff over a month ago and remember none of it. The 10 chapters (becker) is what kills me, I'm better with less chapters… LOL. I just feel like by the time I get to 10 and go back to 1 I forgot it all already

Wow, what job do you have that gave you off a whole month to prepare?

Yep, I wish I knew better how I study when I started this thing, I could have saved a nut-load of time studying for REG. Furthermore, people saying take the sections that you think will be ‘easier' (ha) first are totally right so you can get a grip on what works for you personally! I was retarded to go for REG first, but I got lucky!

I feel like I've wasted so much time on FAR as well, but if I fail this one, I'm confident I now have the tools/knowledge to knock it out ASAP after that.

Just going at it hard and consistently at as fast a pace as I can while still retaining info is the key for me. All those days I studied 6+ hours? I really only got 4 hours of info from; setting a goal that your brain can't handle just to get to your benchmark # of hours is a real loser in my book.

Tomorrow I am in the CPA prison shower with FAR, and my soap has already been dropped; this time I will beg for mercy, but next time…next time I will be the shark standing behind you BEC & AUD!

@BenPitt – good luck tomorrow! -and you're right. I'm just doing 1 chapter a day, review and then MC and then I'll have 2 days to review all. I'm better off focusing on getting a task completed than “it needs to be X hours”. Let us know how it goes tomorrow.

    BEC: Pass
    FAR: Pass
    DONE!
