if this is true, i will probably be the happiest i've been since i entered this hell 8 weeks ago. I just keep forgetting stuff that i should know, but i think im just gonna do what i did in college and just cram everything before the test, hope i remember the small stuff and then just forget it all the second i leave the test.

Baseball, u been in this for only 8 weeks. I am in it for the last 12 weeks. I have put so many hours in the FAR. Unfortunately, the more I study, the more I forget. I haven't felt this way in any of the other three tests. This is killing. In addition, I can't even go to sleep at nights because this is so overwhelming and I am so tensed. As this is my last section, I don't wanna sit for it again. Just do your best and rest is up to the AICPA! Gud luck.

    rahulcpa,

I know exactly what you mean. I studied like crazy for FAR and never felt truly comfortable on everything. I am re-studying and still can't do well on all the practice questions. I feel like nothing sticks and I keep doing the same stupid mistakes. My only hope is that I can improve enough to get me the six points I need to do better than last time. At least this go-round I am not learning some things from scratch; there were topics I was never exposed to in college. Practice, practice, practice.

The exam I took in January didn't seem that hard compared to the Becker questions, but it must have been tricky because I still failed!

    Cpawannabe,

I agree with you. I make same mistakes over and over and over. Sometimes, I feel I should just blow my head off cuz it makes me believe that I am really dumb and I can't ever get comfortable with this material. All I can say is PRACTICE! Looking forward to this on MAY5. If I pass, I be rollin' to Vegas! 😉

IMO I think your scared 8 weeks is way to much. You need to keep the stuff fresh.

I think the key to passing this test is convincing yourself you know this crap. Have some confidence and read the question, and answer the questions right.

exactly, that's how I'm approaching BEC. As soon as I'm ready I'm going for it, I scheduled it already but if I'm ready in 1 more week I'm moving it up. You also need some luck, get the questions you know. Its going to be close, because I got owned in the 2nd testlet.

I think that's how I passed Audit and Bec by convincing myself I KNOW THIS ANNOYING JUNK!!!!!!!!! I don't know how I passed Reg… But I'm hoping to use the I KNOW THIS tactic on FAR this time.

I agree that if you study too many weeks ahead of time, you end up forgetting what you studied a month ago unless you are really good about constantly going back to review it. That being said, we’ll see if my 1.5 week FAR cram session will actually work haha. All I know is that my 7 week FAR study session didn’t work last time. I hope we ALL pass it this time around!!!!

I am with you guys… I had such a hard time re-grouping and re-studying. I have only really kicked it into gear this past week. My exam in one week from today. Actually, in about 20 minutes, it will be commence exactly one week from right then!

Ahhhhhh… trying not to panic. I scored a 72 the first time after about 5 weeks of prep. My score report indicated I did ‘OK' on MC, ‘Weak' on the SIMs, and ‘Strong' on the COM. If that translated into a 72… I am shooting to do good/better on MC, ‘Weak/OK' on the SIMs, and ‘Strong' on the COM.

I am also praying that my SIMs don't consist of freaken a million JEs!

    Re-learning this stuff is a bit*h.

Has anyone passed FAR on their first try after studying for less than a month?

I took my last section in November 09 but have been delaying FAR (my last section) for various reasons. I finally scheduled it for late April but still felt no urge to study. I have since moved my exam back to mid May but have done very little studying so far. I cannot seem to sustain a study program together with my regular schedule. I usually am up to work out by 6:00am and don't get home until 6:30pm or later most nights. I find it very hard to study after making dinner, etc. I have basically “crammed” for the other three sections and passed them all (by cram I mean studying for the 2-3 weeks before a test date, with extra days off of work for studying). I am worried that this may not work for FAR. I have several days off scheduled in the next 2 weeks as well as both weekends to study. I am hoping this will be enough. If not I guess I will at least have a good base of knowledge in place to return to if I have to re-take FAR.

    Bobbins,

Stay focused! Just hammer down for a few more weeks. You're sooo close! You've scored very well on the other tests, so NO SLACKING NOW! Keep up the hard work!

The key to passing FAR is to break it down by topics (not that I have passed, but this is my opinion). Try not to view it as daunting, view it as doable, topic by topic. I studied for FAR using 2009 Becker the first time. This time I re-did (some, not all of Becker) but have supplemented it with the ‘Final Review'. The ‘Final Review' does a nice job of breaking this exam into topics:

    1. Income Statement – Deferred Taxes

    2. Leases

    3. Bonds

    4. Cash Flows

    5. Marketable Securities

    6. Consolidations

    7. Pensions

    8. Stockholders Equity

    9. Accounting Changes

    10. Inventory

    11. Non-for-Profit

    12. Governmental

    13. Fixed Assets

    14. Accrual Accounting

    15. Additional Topics (i.e. Interim Reporting, Partnerships, R/D, Disclosures etc.)

When you view the exam like that, it gets a little less daunting… your goal is too now look at these 15 items, and practice the areas you feel the most weak in. Sadly for me, when I started, it was all 15. Now it's probably more like 2,3,6,7,8.

Hope this helps, good lucl everyone! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh <– Me jumping from a bridge if I fail a second time.
