Thanks, Anna!
I just left the exam and I am still shaking. On my way to a much needed facial. Maybe I can relax a little now that it's over.
FAR - 69, 64, 67 <-Becker, 80 <-Yaeger
AUD - 82 ETHICS - 100
BEC - 72 (retake May 2011)

Thanks, Anna!

You will be fine. That is FAR. Had a 73 last window. FAR is brutal. Trying to take it b4 busy season.
houstoncpa, if you take it by Feb 7th, typically the score should come out in Wave 1. However, there is no guarantee that you will not have a new simulation which will automatically put your score in Wave 2 release. I have heard people waiting as long as 11 to 12 weeks for their scores... :(
Thanks Zena. I will schedule it by Jan. 30. Hope I don't have a new simulation
I hope I didn't have a new simulation. I will go crazy if I have to wait 12 weeks. One of my tabs was acting up though, so it may be new because of the glitch. It required me to put a number in a cell, but kept overriding my number. The number that was being forced was wrong. Anyway, I reported it to NASBA.
A tidbit of advice for those studying: I decided not to focus much on ratios and formulas because I didn't see too many in my Becker questions, but at the last minute, I read over 2008 and 2009 AICPA released questions. There were problems with ratios and formulas so I made sure I could do them. There were questions on my exam, not exact, but very close. I was able to figure them out from practicing with similar concepts on released questions.
Also, don't minimize gov't and NFP like some people say. It is on there.
@zena
if I take it by Feb 13, there will be a new simulation ?
I start to study today and I will take it by Feb 13 and how many hours study time for FAR?
Free0911, no one knows if you have a new simulation but AICPA, and they won't tell! You score will most likely come out in wave 2 if you take it on the 13th, so whether you have a new sim or not, will not matter. I think Jeff has a post somewhere on the site about recommended number of study hours for each exam. You might want to look around. Maybe even the first few posts in this thread.
@zena
Thanks and I will check around for the study hours.
Thank you
I think Jeff said Study hours for FAR is 6-8 weeks at 20 hours a week. So anywhere from 120-160 hours.
FAR 73 02/09 AUD 68 04/09, 80 11/09 BEC 72 04/09, 78 10/09 REG 80 05/09
Has anyone had problems w/ any of the exams, as far as doing the questions so many times, they became memorized and the the actual exam was not as you had prepared for?
"Also, don't minimize gov't and NFP like some people say. It is on there. "
Don't minimize anything, I have learned that lesson 3x already...
wish this test was open notes...le sigh
CVACPA -
Yes, so far on all three sections the questions become so familiar that you memorize the answer & not the theory. Hard to imagine that is possible when Becker has 1,000 (+-/) questions but after a few times around you do memorize those. I saw on here months ago someone with the same situation & gave good advice - find questions from other sources rather than just your review course whether online or wherever. The theory will then stick with you, not just answers.
brla, well you must know what your doing...I am struggling with FAR as this is my 4x
This is so frustrating... I am studying to retake FAR after 6 weeks off of it. I'll read the chapters and remember just about everything in there but when I go to do MC questions, I still score horribly.
FAR questions are by far the trickiest of the 3 I have taken so far. They throw in nots, excepts, and extra dollar amounts that are not necessary for the answer... I am going to lose it.
I'm joining you all on taking FAR. I'm signed up for Feb 26th and starting to study today. I hope its enough time!!! I just took BEC Saturday.
I've had the same problem with memorizing the questions rather than knowing the concepts on other sections. That's good advice to try questions from other sources.
Has anyone taken FAR yet this window? Thoughts, reactions? I am taking FAR on 2/1.
I have the same question. Any thoughts of how it compared to what you expected and what to focus our studies on?
Be prepared to do journal entries (not my best area of expertise)! My sims did not have "situation" tabs, but independent topics on each tab. Almost all tabs required journal entries. I budgeted 45 minutes per sim, but did not finish either one.
I recommend going through the MCQs as fast as you can without marking any for review, but read them carefully. Save plenty of time for the simulations.
I used Becker and Wiley and thought I was adequately prepared, but brush up on current topics such as severance pay/packages that are not covered well in the 2009 study materials.
CPAWannaBe,
Thanks so much....that info is VERY HELPFUL. I have three more lectures remaining and then a MAJOR two week review.
My experience yesterday was pretty much the same as CPAWannabe's. I finished the exam with 30 seconds left. I had about 1 hour and 50 minutes for the sims. I don't recommend doing the MCs quickly, but rather read them carefully, mark some for review if you need to, but only look at them quickly and make a decision when you go back to review them again. Don't dwell on them. I think I spent a little bit too much time on them because I was so focused on getting them all answered correctly that I started to panic right before starting the sims because I didn't leave as much time for them as I wanted to.
I used Becker and did the practice exams on the data CDs and scored in the 80s. I recommend doing them if use Becker because they are very similar to the actual exam.
I just sat for it today and finished with a minute and a half..I have no idea how I did..MCQ didn't seem to get harder (though I was equally confused on all of them) which is a terrible sign, the first sim was really easy and the second was mediocre, nothing crazy like I saw in REG. I just hope I passed...I really hate the adaptive testing, it messes with your mind, the whole time I'm worrying about if these questions are as hard as they should be and why I'm still not getting them.
Thanks everyone for the helpful hints and telling us how your exams went.
So sounds like we should do all the MCQ's timely so we have enough time left for the sims. The Sims are, what, 30% of our overall scores right? So we need to make sure we do well on the MCQ though.
I was just wondering if anyone has had any success with the Gleim books. I am currently using it for FAR which is my last test. I used Becker last time, but my software license ran out.
Jshells, I am using Gleim too for FAR simply because it is cheap. I don't know exactly how good it is. I used it last window and failed but I must say I didn't use the software. I skimmed through the questions. This time I plan to thoroughly review all 1900 questions.
I am finding the Gleim questions are worded different from the actual Exam....I have Wiley, Yeager, and I bought Gleim this window...
One of my co-workers used Gliem to take FAR, but she didn't pass. She said she understands the materal better than Becker which she is using now. Three other co-workers used Becker and passed the first time. I'm going to use Becker for the exam and hope I can do the same! :)
ADVICE NEEDED:
I am taking REG tomorrow (for the second time after a 74 the first time...) I plan to begin studying for FAR on Monday (1/18). I am scheduled to take the exam on 2/26... That's a little less than 6 weeks between when I begin studying and when I take the exam...
I am using Becker...
I plan on studying for 6-8 hours a day (30-40 hours/week)... do you guys think this is going to be sufficient time to prepare?
I would love it if I managed to pull off passing both these tests in the same window...
Thanks for you help in advance!
glogo2384, I am taking FAR on 2/1 and then plan to immediately begin studying for REG, which I am taking on 2/27. I will be studying 8 - 10 hours per day. I took BEC (11/28/09) and AUD (11/25/09) and passed both parts. So, I'm like you, 2 Down and 2 More to Go!!!!!
I would think that's enough if you 6-8 hours a night. I am scheduled to take FAR on Feb 26th as well and just started studying (sort of) Monday. I put together a study plan and there's enough time to get through all the chapters and do plenty of review if I stick to it. But I'm only able to study maybe 2-3hrs a day if I'm lucky.
I have faith in you! Stick to your plan and you'll pass both :)
