So I am in the second chapter in my Becker program for the FAR review. The second chapter seemed like a review from what I learned from college, and I thought seemed much easier than the first chapter. Now I sit here panicking as I do the multiple choice questions. I’m at a solid 40% correct my first time through. It seems like the lecture didn’t really give good examples like I am getting in the homework questions. For you CPA’s out there that have used Becker to pass what do you suggest? Is it normal to struggle this badly first time through the homework? Do I just need to keep grinding through the homework to understand why I am right or wrong? HELP

I remember that feeling very well. Chapter 1 lulls you into a “hey this isn't so bad” kind of feeling, and then BAM. You can't let your percentage on the homework get to you, and especially the first time around. If you have to you could even put a post it note over the part that keeps track of your percentage. I was in the same boat as I'm sure many others were, so just keep pushing and it will get better later when things start to all come together. Good luck!

Look at your first run through the homework as an extension of the lecture. In other words, learn from it (and take notes), just as you did for the lecture. Don't beat yourself up about it.

Your performance is garden-variety. You should be getting low scores on your first go around because they're getting you used to the technique, not necessarily the technical piece. If you've studied and know your stuff, fear not – go over the MCQs multiple times – you need to catch the essence of the question. You will fail more by not knowing how to answer the question vs. not knowing the question.

F2 is one of the hardest chapters in Becker. On some of the questions I didn't understand the solution even though they showed it to me. It's all part of the beast called FAR. I am currently on F4 right now, and it is definitely harder than REG!
