I’m struggling with the governmental part of FAR (and my test is in 1 week). Does anyone have suggestions for picking up the material? I’ve been using the NINJA notes, flashcards, and I listen to the NINJA audio everyday.

For the last few days, I’ve also been putting more focus on it in the NINJA MCQ’s but I only have a week left and am not really making any process on my trending score (and obviously my understanding).

My trending for governmental is 58% and my next lowest is a trending of 70%.

I have a lot of the NINJA audio for governmental memorized but I am seriously struggling with applying it to the MCQ’s. I haven’t watched the videos yet, maybe that would help? I have the NINJA book, but haven’t really looked at it yet either, so I’m going to read through the governmental part of it too.

On youtube there are a couple of lectures about Govt accounting that were helpful. I think I went on and searched CPA governmental accounting. If you search through the FAR study thread it is up there, a few pages back

My first reaction is pretty much everything.

Trying to think about the questions that feel the hardest, what stands out is the financial statements. I don't understand how they work at all. I know that there are governmental wide financial statements and I know that the different funds operate on either accrual (proprietary and fiduciary) or modified accrual (governmental), but I don't understand how the general fund, internal service fund, agency fund, etc all roll-up to financial statements and how everything has to be presented.

Well first, agency funds are not “rolled-up” into the gov't wide financials. No fiduciary funds are included.

Only Governmental and Proprietary Funds are included in the gov't wide financials. The quirk is that the internal service fund, although proprietary, is included in governmental activities because internal service funds exclusively provide services to the government.

It's tailored for the CPA Exam and has examples. It's the best use of your time vs other materials.

juuustin and Gabe- both of those are very helpful. I don't know why I kept thinking they were all interrelated. That makes much more sense and after just a 10 minute look my head feels a lot less jumbled about it.

@silvercamaro77 I read FAR book by Jeff and it has complete set of application and entries. Plus jeff has separate chapter for IFRS of which I like it very much. Best of luck to us.

I started reading through the NINJA book for the govt section last night and it is helping a ton. I think it's a section that doesn't come intuitively to me so I wasn't getting enough details to understand what I was memorizing.
