I am taking FAR on 2/26. It’s tax season as everyone on this site knows, so I don’t have as many hours, days or brain cells left for studying as I would like. I am only on section 7 (Becker). I am about 1/4 of the way through section 7. There are 10 sections. I haven’t done ANY SIMS for FAR, just MCQ. Does anyone think I should focus on finishing all 10 sections of MCQ and use any time left to review the 10 sections or should I try to squeeze in all of the SIMS? I’m thinking that I am best off trying to understand the concept of everything covered and hope that undertanding the concepts will help with the SIMS on my exam. Ahhh! Me having no time left to study is 100% my fault, but at this point I just need to focus on trying to get as much studying done as possible until exam day.

I'd leave some time for SIMs, but IMO drilling MCQ's are more important. All a SIM does is expand upon knowledge and concepts from MCQs or combines several related concepts from MCQ's into 1 question. If you get the concepts in the MCQs and understand why the answer is right or wrong, you should be able to tie them together to do a SIM (or at least do enough to get half credit on the really hard ones 🙂 )

Jess774 i am on the same boat as you! I have done some sims but not much. I am on chp 9 and hoping to finish that by tomorrow and then really start MCQ review over and over. I tried doing some already and i feel like I forgot 95% of it.. I am sooo scared and have debated on changing my exam date for the next window….. but i feel like that is always a bad idea. this is my last exam too

FWIW I did not review a single SIM for FAR…REG, on the other hand, was a different story. I would focus on knowing the concept. If you can arrive at the correct answer on the MCQ you should be able to do the same thing on the SIMs. Also, everyone says the had crazy SIMs but I thought my FAR (and AUD) SIMs were pretty reasonable. The hardest ones I had were REG and tax is not my strong point to begin with.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Thanks guy!! I'm going to save some time for SIMS.

@Yaz88 I can reschedule my exam but since March is phased out testing-wise and during the first half of April I am up to my eyeballs in tax returns, I really wanted to test for FAR by the end of Feb. I won't test again for something until May soo I am thinking I am just going to study as much as I possibly can until test day. If I fail, then I am out hundreds of dollars but I gave it a shot.

@akduran07 Ugh, I feel your pain! You are almost done with section 9. You should go for it. My thought is, I can study as much as I can until test day. If I fail, I will be able to retake in April/May since we are already in the next testing window. The exam fees are expensive, but its worth a try!! I've pushed off exams before and its made me procrastinate more. You should give it a try!! Go balls to the wall until test day!! The material will come back to you when you review.

I'm thinking maybe you could practice a few just to get a feel. If you've been studying all this time why not go for it. I think someone said already that procrastination sets in more if you wait. I agree. If you wait too long you'll forget everything and will be starting over before you've had a chance to pass or fail. So why start the study session again before you have to, If you fail, it's not like you start where you left off, its advised from the beginning, I say go for it. Just practice a few sims since others have said sims are too random anyway…..

    It begins with a 75
Been here too long as a cheerleader.....time to pass

hey jess! i was in the same thought dilemma as you two weeks ago, having done 0 of the becker sims and freaking out. after taking the exam, i would recommend going through the sims involving JEs and filling in FS/cash flows and skipping the rest especially those that asks ‘what are the effects of…'

If you can nail down JEs and t-accounts of each concept, it will be helpful for your MCQs and sims. also maybe do 4-5 research questions or until you're familiar with AL. i wasted a lot of time doing them for each chapter even though it was reiterating the same concepts.

    good luck 🙂

    AUD: April
