Hi everyone – I have FAR on Wednesday and have been preparing for 2 months. I felt pretty good until I started taking the Wiley Online Test Bank full exams and have been doing pretty bad. I was in the upper 60s, then broke into the 70s. I took two exams today got a 60 and a 58. Terrible! I took part of this week and part of next to get some extra cramming time in. I have identified a couple of areas to work on but it seems like when I get NFP down, I forget Govt. I go back and re-study Govt and forget pretty much all of IFRS and make dumb mistakes like forgetting to properly calc bond amort by using an annual rate when it is semi annual.

So, I am looking for suggestions. Has anyone taken a cram course and do you think they helped your FAR scores? I have to pass the first time through because my wife may disown me if I don’t.

    Appreciate the insight.

Don't give up, New Dad! These things cover so much material that it is impossible to totally master EVERYTHING!

Here are a couple of things that helped me when I was experiencing similar feelings while preparing for FAR in May.

You need to find a way to get the PANIC feeling to go away. We are all different and have different ways of dealing with the incredible level of stress that this test puts on us. Sometimes, taking a break and doing something fun or different is beneficial.

I felt like I HAD to pass these last 2 exams on the first try because of my personal situation (doesn't really matter what our personal situation is, we all have stuff and all really want to be done with this beast.) It seemed to calm my nerves, improve my concentration, and stop the PANIC that I was feeling when I accepted that I might NOT pass on the first try. I determined that I had studied and I would do my best and that the results would be out of my hands. If I don't pass on the first attempt, then I study again and retake. Again, it really helped my mental state when I took the pressure of HAVING to pass on the first try away.

After I had gone through my entire review course (Gleim), I allowed myself a short amount of time to review each section using a timer. I was forced to only re-read the most important areas knowing I had to finish before the timer went off. It seemed like I was more focused when I timed my reading and review.

    I hope that helps.

I think I'm reminding myself of those things since I'm ready for my final prep for Audit on Monday.

Thanks for the kind words KEMcpa. I'm not giving up, don't know the meaning of the word. Yah the stress level is a bit high and maybe that is why I am making dumb (e.g math) mistakes. It's not really panic but frustration because I think I know it and then when I take the practice exam, the result tells me I don't. Let's hope the Wiley CPA Test Bank is harder than FAR on test day.

Based on your results, you are kicking a$$ which is fantastic. Hope you knock Audit out of the park too, I've got that one scheduled for 8/30.

    Cheers!
