    I am having a hard time grasping the concepts for each..and as we all know these topics are heavily to moderately tested. Any suggestions on how to better grasp the material? FYI, I am using Becker.

    Oh I know this…. Things I Hate…..Read the book and find any source, not just your book, to study off of. After you are done looking at your sources (Becker books, internet, Youtube, etc..) then redo that chapter because you really need to know it. I was initially horrible with this chapter because of how long it took me to answer the questions. Once you get it you won't forget it. FYI, start with learning the amortization table for bonds. Once you got that you know bonds.

    A couple of things I would suggest…

    Repetition – It took me going through the lectures and problems 2 or 3 times to really grasp these concepts. After the first time through, I was scoring around 30-40% on the MCQ's and a lot of those were some lucky guesses.

    If after repeating the chapters you still don't get it, buy a Cram video from a teaching course such as Yaeger. Becker is great, but Yaeger does much more hand holding which some of us need (like me!).

    I second what Jack Don said. When I was going through my bonds chapter, I made an amortization table out of every problem, even when I didn't need it. It really helped me see how the whole thing worked rather than memorizing “Face amount x face rate – carrying amount x market rate, etc.).

    Hi Katie

    Congratulations, excellent score. I am going to sit for FAR in April. I am using the Bisk's book. I think that the majority of questions on the book are CPA release questions. I am using Lambers and Wiley 2011. I had gone to the material at least twice. Now I am in the process of doing MCQ until my eyes bleed. My problem is that I cannot do the MCQ fast enough. I am afraid to sit for the exam and will no be able to pass. Could you advise how to grasp the material better? I have ton of notes. I have them in an Excel spreadsheets, one tab per subject.

    Thank you

    @ Revenue – I had to laugh about your notes in Excel. I thought I was the only one that did that. Definitely must be an accountant thing! Everyone always asks why me I do everything in Excel and don't use Word.

    @Revenue

    For AUD, I felt like almost half of my questions I saw on the exam had been in my Bisk material. I didn't feel surprised by MCQs. The sims, however, were a completely different story.

    For FAR, I ran out of time studying and didn't get to do MCQs on the last five chapters. I just watched the lectures and memorized my notes. So I can't really remember or say accurately if a lot of those were on the exam. For me the key is watching the lectures and actually memorizing the notes. I add in MCQs for clarification and to really pound in the concepts into my head.

    @Katie – I've been wanting to get a hold of you to ask you some questions. What is your email? If you don't mind. đŸ™‚
