Before I start, just wanted to say that I am in no way trying to acquire information about anyone’s actual exam information! Just how you reviewed 🙂

I am in the review stage of studying for far. I allowed myself 2 weeks to review after completing all the chapters. The first week I have been rereading the chapters and doing various progress tests/review questions. Moving into week 2 I want to focus on really understanding everything to keep it fresh and prepare for sims as best as I can. Are there any areas that you find absolutely pertinent to make sure review in detail for the sims? For example, I believe I should really study how to set up a statement of cash flows direct/indirect from scratch since thats not something you can BS your way through on sims just by knowing how to do calculations. What does everyone plan of focusing on in great detail for the sims? Some things I know you cannot prepare for besides just knowing the information, but what are everyone ideas of the “major” topics to know inside and out!

Thanks everyone! Again, if you’ve already taken FAR, I am not interested on what was on your test. Just how you prepared for it, whether your predictions of testable SIMS were correct or not.

    AUD: 98
    REG: 91
    BEC: 86
    FAR: 83

DONE DONE DONE and DONE all on the first try! It IS possible, just keep on studying!

Do sims once and don't worry if you get them wrong ( I got most of the right during my review but that does not matter because the real exam is way way way more difficult and different from Becker, and the real exam sims are shorter as well)… But being more difficult doesn't mean they are difficult in their substance. It just means that they are incomparable.

I studied all of the major topics for the SIMS.

Know non-profit and government accounting well, that will be huge for when those questions arise on the exam. I think many students skim over these sections then get a SIM or many MC questions on the topics and crap themselves. Know them and IFRS too they are an important part of the exam and will be tested as they say you will see almost 20% of your exam on those topics alone.

My best is advice is do not crank out Sims on the software do one or two for all of the MAJOR topics and be familiar with using the authoritative literature for supplemental information when answering the sims. This is your first CPA exam that you are sitting for, so I will stress this to you. KNOW HOW TO USE THE LITERATURE.

Follow the becker instructions religiously and be honest with your progress/weaknesses and you'll come out on top. Eliminate weaknesses one by one.

I am taking FAR in August and have the same questions…The SIMS are so freaking hard…Anyway – I have read that everyone uses the AL a lot for AUD and REG but no mention of using it for FAR. Is it helpful for FAR? If it is – can you give specific topics that it is helpful for? I know for AUD and REG, the AL was helpful with the audit reports and also the many tax laws. Thanks!

    BEC - 76 (1/24/15)
    REG - 82 (4/13/15)
    AUD - 89 (5/31/15)
    FAR - 78 (8/16/15)

Starting right now I'll be strong
    I'll play my fight song
And I don't really care if nobody else believes
'Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me

The AL is awesome for AUD, pretty helpful for FAR and almost useless for REG.

AL = Authoritative Literature. It's the research tool you have access to on the exam, if you are proficient enough to use the research tool, you can quickly and efficiently find an answer you need from the regs they provide on the exam
