FAR Simulation Question – Exam Saturday!

I have a question on how the simulations are graded on the real exam. I was doing a practice test for FAR last night on Becker and noticed that my score was terrible for the sims. Once I reviewed it, I noticed why. I uploaded a screenshot (linked below) of the answer box that shows the right answers in green and the wrong in yellow. For this sim I was scored a 14/21 (67%), but if you look at my answers I should have gotten a 100%. The question didnt say anything about filling in blanks or enter “no entry necessary” like on some questions. Is this just something that Becker does or is the actual exam graded similarly

I am pretty sure I’ve seen people ask this question on here before but I couldnt find an old post that addressed it. Sorry if this is pope! I am taking FAR for the first time Saturday so I just wanted to get little things like this nailed down and focus on NFP and IFRS…

I’ve passed REG (Feb ’14) and BEC (Aug ’14) so I havent taken a part with sims in 9 months. I am a frequent visitor to A71, but rarely post (I think this is my first one actually).

    Thanks for your help!

    REG - 82 (2/26/14)
    BEC - 87 (8/22/14)
    FAR - 83 (11/29/14)
    AUD - 85 (2/13/15)
    Ethics (TN) - 98 (5/9/15)

From my experience, the exam will be very specific in their instructions so as long as you pay attention to what they are asking, you shouldn't have any issues.

    FAR - 86 7/2014
    AUD - 95 10/2014
    REG - 87 1/22/15
    BEC - 84 7/2015

As MrCPA said, the exam for FAR was very specific about how to enter data into a field that is zero. Read the instructions and you should be fine.

It's an understandable concern though because Becker provides no such guidance.

The general rule is to put zeros in the blank spaces for a JE. Also, if you run out of time on your SIMS, at least put zeros in every space to help gain points. The exam will be specific as to what they want you to do. Not all of the review courses are specific.

I just took FAR yesterday and I did not put 0's for any blank JE'S. Hopefully it doesn't come back and bite me, but I never understood don't see why you would put 0's. Like, for the drop down boxes for the account name, what option you would pick? Just the “No Entry Required” and then a 0? Once you put an account name, you can't use it again. Are you guys saying you should put 0's even if you don't assign an account name to it?

@Disco Stu, I never put 0s in either for journal entries. Doesn't make any sense to me.

I did have at least one SIM where “No journal entry required” was the right answer, so I put that on the first line and nothing else.

Regardless, the instructions will usually be clear.

    FAR: May 1st, 2014 - 91
    AUD: May 29th, 2014 - 97!
    BEC: July 16th, 2014 - 91
    REG: August 29th, 2014 - 88

    @JamesBJames

Thanks for the response! You def put my mind at ease at little bit, especially seeing your scores in the sig. I was second guessing my performance after seeing this thread.

can't win with the Becker practice final…I tried putting 0 this time where I'd left it blank yesterday, still got marked wrong…even though the entries were all correct for amounts and descriptions.
