    Hey Guys….

Does anyone have any helpful suggestions/resources to help with FAR Sims? I feel like I finally am getting better at the MCQ’s and then I get to sims and I am like WTF is going on…how much time should you allot for each and how do you go about tackling them? I am really stressing about these simulations!

What test bank are you using? I've been having an easier-than-expected time with SIMs, so might be able to give you some pointers…but I'm using Wiley, and was actually about to post a thread asking if they're representative of “real” SIMs, cause either I do better on SIMs than MCQs or Wiley's are too easy. 😐 So I'm not sure if my SIMs experience is good enough to really give you any feedback!

I just took the exam today and went into the sims with just under 2 hours left. I used every second and could have used a few more minutes to be honest. I also struggle with the simulations. They're almost impossible to study for since you never know what they'll test you on. But you can bet your bottom dollar that you'll have at least one simulation that involves journal entries, so I would brush up on those. And then whatever topics you think could be tested. Basically any of the larger calculations. Stocks, bonds, leases, inventory, etc etc. just practice, practice, practice! Good luck!

You should definitely know your journal entries for the FAR sims. I cannot stress how much of an emphasis is put on journal entries and accounts on the sims. Be familiar with how to use the AL to do research; it can be helpful if you forget how to handle a certain topic. In my personal experience, I finished the first 3 sets on MCQs in 2 hours and used the about 1.5 hours to do the 7 sims on the exam.

Thanks guys…@Elisabeth I am using Becker study materials. I am doing the live classes as well which is helping because the instructors are helping us with what is really important vs what is not. I wish we could do the sims in class but I suppose there is no time for that – bummer!

Out of my 7 SIMS, 1 was research, 1 has no J/E, and the rest were journal entry based.

Of course, you had to do some calculations to get to the entries, but I would have failed had I not known which entries to make.

I notice a lot of people saying they use the authoritative literature to answer SIMS .. How is this possible? Is the AL really that helpful??

I'm crossing my fingers that I get a simulation related to fixed assets… That would be really nice. Must study more…

Aside from the research question, I didn't use the AL. We'll see if that worked since I just took the exam today, but I don't really see how it would be useful. Personally, it would take me far more time to learn my way around the AL than to just learn the concepts, and given that the AL is only available during the SIMs (if I remember right), you'd have to know the concepts for the MCQs, anyway. The SIMs seemed like MCQ questions as far as topics and knowledge went, just you didn't have multiple choice options, and the question might be a bit more in-depth.

For the research question, you do have to use the AL. I never did a practice research question, and still did fine with it, though…at least I think I did lol. It took me just about 5 minutes to figure out what was wanted and find it in the AL, even though I've never used the AL before.

Tanaya, without getting into specifics, I had a question that required me to make a journal entry. The problem was that I had the option to put “no entry” as one of my answers. I wasn't sure if I should make an entry or not, so I went to the AL and was able to find the section specific to the topic.

From there, it was easy to see that “no entry” was the correct answer.

You can't use it for everything, but the AL can be useful for some questions. ONLY use it if you have extra time. If you try to use it before you answer everything, you'll end up leaving things blank.

@Jason @Elisabeth ok so I won't depend on using the AL (aside from the research).. thanks!

I agree with the other posters.

Know the Je's inside and out for most of the topics.

Also, make sure you know the subtle differences between similar topics and ideas.

Knowing the topics is the key for SIMs, however doing practice test will help you familiarize on the question format so don't skip SIMs during review. I've only used the AL for the research question but I see a lot of posts here that they utilize AL for other SIM questions. I guess when you have extra time left you can probably do that, but if you don't just go by what you know.
