FAR studying – is my studying process ok?

    Hello Wanna Be CPA’s –

As of yesterday, I officially started studying for the exam, beginning with the FAR. I am taking Becker’s live classes and waiting for my request to sit to be approved. One area of concern is that I wish I would have waited until the beginning of the year – because now my last lecture is November 8th, and the last offered testing day is Novemeber 22nd. I am worried that if I register to sit that day, I won’t have enough time to review everything.

In your experience, do you think it would be more wise to wait until Jan2012, or to just schedule it for the end of Novemeber and hope I’m prepared? I am starting my classes on AUD in Mid-November as well and a little worried about having to study both at the same time.

Also, have any of you Becker student’s followed the study schedule set in the software and been successful?

    Happy Studying!

I think that Nov 8-22 should be sufficient to review after your last class. If I were you, I would not put the exam off until January. I would slack off and procrastinate with my studies because January would seem so far away and before you know it, Christmas has passed and you're in panic mode.

    @markiux, shouldn't you be “working”?

And, yes I should be studying. I just finished my workday, so I'm off to have a date with 3 audit books 🙁

I think how fresh you are on intermediate accounting would help determine. If you did really well on your classes and retained knowledge about how things work, the classes will be a review anyway, and you will have enought time to prep for test in Nov.

If like me you passed the classes good enough but did not really retain the knowledge, the classes (I'm doing Yeager home study) is only part of the review needed, I also need to work on the concepts and problems as well which means I need more time for test prep. I hope to take FAR in mid to late January, having started studying late September.

    Good luck!

@ledgermaven…It seems like we're on the same timeline…I'm taking FAR in late Feb….I started FAR and AUD in early September, but figured AUD was way easier and can get it done in 4-5 weeks, so I dropped it after covering 20% in 10 hours…I still remember the RMM formula…hahhaa..We should start our own PA firm after we all pass the exam….

@markiux88 – brave you to take on two at once! smart you to drop aud! I understand FAR is a good one to take first because you need the info for the other exams, and since it's the hardest, the clock doesn't start ticking until it's passed. My mindset has changed from maybe I should quit if I don't pass the first time or two, to I will take it however many times I need to! Seeing folks here who perservered on after 4, 5,…6 times, very inspiring.

    What are your study habits?

    Cheers,

@ledgermaven…I dropped AUD….I figured I can take it after FAR since it's not so much material…..I study every day @ least hours…I do MCQ's, read the sections..read flashcards…and I'm gonna start taking notes even though I”ve never done it because it's so much material to remember…I'm 1/3 done with the material…

I have the best way to evaluate your studying.

If you pass you have a good study method.

If you fail you don't have a good study method.

    R PASS
    A PASS
    B PASS
    F AUGUST

@jamesjohnsons11. But it sure would be nice to know in advance if it was working, not after the fact 🙂
