FAR-type Questions on BEC?

    Hi all,

I took BEC on Saturday and I swear there seemed to be FAR-type questions on my exam. Luckily, I took FAR and generally am able to retain most of the financial accounting I learned, but I still thought it was odd. I looked through the book and nowhere did I see anything related to the topics that were asked. I distinctly remember learning those concepts while going through FAR though.

Has anyone ever had this happen to them or was it just my imagination? I’m worried that this might mean that I failed because I started to see more weird questions like that on my 3rd testlet.

    FAR - 84
    AUD - 76 (phew)
    BEC - 88
    REG - 77

    DONE!

I've seen this mentioned before, but unless you are specific with the topics it cannot be answered.

Finance, ie PV calculations are a branch of finance, not of accounting, so the more likely scenario is that there were BEC questions on FAR. I know this because I am studying FAR, and accountants need to know finance to record some items.

Likewise with ratios, capital, equity vs debt, depreciation methods, tax effects, etc.

When they are applied to studying profitability or business success they are BEC.

Yep, I've had that happen to me during the BEC section as well and someone on the Roger website told me everything is fair game. Personally that sucks and shouldn't be that way but I ran into that issue when I took AUD as well. Unfortunately, that may have been the only sim I got right.

The day before my BEC exam my boss decides to pull out his FAR Becker book that he keeps handy. His book is probably 10-15 years old. He decides to do some Q&A with me and after a handful of questions I am telling him to put the book away and stop confusing me. Well…One of the questions on my BEC exam was one of the questions that he read to me from his FAR book verbatim. No joke.

    BEC 7/14 - PASS
    FAR 10/14 - PASS
    AUD 1/15 - PASS
    REG 4/15 - PASS

I don't remember where I read it (maybe Becker review course?), but I do remember reading that for the BEC writing portion, they may have questions relating to other topics than BEC until they get enough questions developed since the writing portion is still fairly new. Becker emphasized that you need to focus on clarity, organization, professionalism, and tone of your thoughts more than actually having a “correct” answer. I got several FAR/AUD type questions on my BEC, and totally know my facts were probably not 100% on, but I passed, so focus more on your writing content (using paragraphs, introductory words, correct punctuation & spelling) and not so much your writing content (don't write about pandas, but you know what I mean) and that is what you are graded on.

I just took BEC and I too got some FAR related questions. It's been about a year since I took FAR so I was a little confused. Hopefully got them right!

Just as MOD said a lot of sections in BEC relate to FAR: capital management, NPV, fin. risk mgt (questions like how would distributing 500 shares of common stock effect EPS vs. issuing 20,000 of debt) , just as a lot of the questions regarding corporate governance are considered “AUD” questions, and almost any cash flow is going to have a tax component to it. I haven't sat for BEC yet but I have noticed overlaps in all of the sections, the more overlapping material the better in my opinion.

    A - 89 10/23/2014
    R - 90 2/27/2014
    F - 75 5/25/2014
    B - 83 8/28/2014

Hi , I am preparing for BEC (First time and first exam) . I don't wish to leave anything left . This is getting me worried that FAR and AUD questions are appearing on BEC .

I will be glad if some one could just point me to a direction were i can roughly go through FAR and AUD before going for BEC exam .

    Thank you

Well it is not much. One of my writing topics was 100% far and I had not taken it yet and I still got a 94. I do not think it is worth the effort to try to cover FAR topics too. Just learn BEC well, and that is enough.
