Hey everyone. I just received my FAR score and actually did 6 points worse than my prior exam. I studied more and focused on my weak areas. I went into the exam confident and didn’t feel terrible until I got to the simulations. I really just feel defeated right now. This has been a 3 year on and off process for me. I passed my first exam July 2nd of last year and my second on August 6th of last year, meaning its been a full year since passing anything and my clock is ticking and my heart is breaking. I am currently studying for REG and feeling good, but I can’t help but think about the future. FAR is just the worst. I honestly have no idea what I could have done different for it. I memorized all of the Becker flashcards and all of the formulas. I just don’t know what to do. Thinking about buying the Wiley test bank for next time. Does anyone have any other suggestions??? Any help/advice would be much appreciated!!

Do you really understand the material, or are you just memorizing? Memorization can only get you so far. One approach you might consider is a study group or other “live” format studying that allows you to engage in discussion, ask questions, and really think through the topics. Memorizing lists and facts is great but it doesn't really help you apply your knowledge.

Kels: I feel your pain but you have to fight the negative thoughts running through your brain right now. You have passed TWO exams and you will pass FOUR! Put FAR out of your mind for right now. You can’t change that grade in this test window so focus on what you CAN change in this test window. KILL REG on Aug 29th. Get Wiley Test Bank and do non-stop MCQs and Sims. Write and rewrite your notes and fact nuggets. If you knock out REG in August, you will have one chance for FAR in the Oct/Nov window and another last chance on January 2 before your AUD expires. This is DOABLE!!! You are half way done so don’t give up!

@wizards…I hear ya. Honestly, I did feel that I understood the concepts as well. My weak areas are bonds, leases, and stocks. I just haven't had enough real world experience with them and I find them hard concepts to wrap my arms around. I agree with you about the “live” classroom comment. I just told a friend that I really wish I knew someone in my town that I could sit down and bounce things off of. I'm thinking about contacting an old professor to see if she would be willing to meet with me to go over the areas I'm struggling in. I'm in the same town as the University of Illinois, so surely I can get something figured out. Thanks for your advice. Very much appreciated!!

@baxter. Amen! Exactly what I'm doing. Back to reg this morning and just kicked the agency sections butt. I am really feeling confident for reg, so focusing my energy on it! Also…from another thread, I was told that I cannot take on January 2, as that is the day my exam expires. I would have to take the day before, which I'm sure prometric is closed on New Year's Day! So more pressure to pass in oct/nov! I am definitely planning on buying the Wiley test bank for additional questions and simulations. Really hopeful that it will give me the boost that I need. Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the positive energy! I am feeling much better!!

I am fighting the discouragement bug this week also. I have FAR fast approaching on Saturday! Day before yesterday, I studied like a mad woman all day but I couldn't sleep at all that night because my brain is trying to convince me that I can't pass and it will NOT shut up! Then yesterday I had to work all day…tried to study last night and my brain said…Umm…NO! So I crashed instead. It feels like a WASTED evening even though I know I needed the sleep. So now I have three days and hundreds of topics dancing around that need review.

I swear… 1/2 the battle for passing these exams is the psychological warfare!!! =(

I am the little Baxter that could…

Ive posted this quote on here so many times but I think it is fitting especially when you are feeling discouraged and that little voice in your head says you can't do this….

“The voice in your head that says that you can't do it is a liar.”

You can absolutely do this. I know it gets discouraging at points when you just don't think you can cram another ounce of information into your brain but you can do it and you will do it!

If money is not a problem for you, I suggest you to take the FAR exam at the end of October. If you pass Reg, move the FAR to end of November. If you fail the Reg, rematch it on end of November. You shouldn't skip any testing windows. Even though you didn't study, you should still go to the test center and take the exam.

I know how you feel while I am studying FAR now. And I am feeling discourage that FAR has so many materials to study.

Last thing, Never Ever Think About Giving Up. And, never skip testing window.
