Okay so April 1st after putting it off forever, I’ve finally started studying for the CPA..

I have a 2013 Becker REG book, both ninja and Becker note cards and.. Currently that’s it :/

So far I have been working thru Becker R1 have spent ~8 hours total yesterday and today copying the Becker book into notes and that’s how long it took me to get thru R1… I’ve excluded almost nothing from the Becker book as I’ve copied. Is this a good strategy or am I spending too much time on this ?

Also I guess I’ll be getting WTB eventually, but when do I start working mcq’s, at the end of each chapter or should I take detailed notes on the whole book before doing mcq’s?

What other material should I add?

Here was my tentative plan going in:

    1. Take detailed notes on entire Becker REG book

    2. After finished entire book then start WTB mcq’s

    3. Recopy all my notes, perhaps try and condense to more important topics.

After spending 8 hours copying R1 which is only ~50 pages I am starting to wonder if this might not Be the best use of time.. Should I take more condensed notes and do mcq’s as I go or stick to the original plan?

    Thanks!

I personally think it would be better for you to focus on just reading the book and save note taking until you start working MCQs. Rewriting the entire book is going to take a lot of time and it's really necessary to pass. I like to use the Ninja Notes as a guideline as I am reading each section and add my own more detailed notes into the Ninja Notes, but definitely not as detailed as you are talking about. I take the most notes when I am working the MCQs and I get stuck on one that I can't figure out or remember the concept/formula/JE. I suggest going through all of the MCQ for that section after you get done reading it to ensure that you understand the concepts and then once you've gone through the entire book that way, go back through the MCQ again. Seeing the MCQ multiple times will help.

I second CPAMommyof3's advice. Your get a much better idea what to focus on when you start doing the multiple choice questions.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"
