Financial Analyst/ Industry Accounting

I was recently approached by a recruiter about a few openings with a local publicly traded company. The positions discussed are a financial analyst role and “other accounting roles”. I am currently in public accounting, but have considered the move to private in the near future.

I know there isn’t much to go on with the job description, but I have not really followed up with the recruiter yet. I wanted to do some homework first.

Can anyone in a financial analyst/accounting role with a financial services company give some type of description of day to day operations/job functions? Is this typically an entry level position? I have 3+ years of experience and do not want to “start over” in my next position.

Hey, I'm a Financial Analyst III at a large regional bank. I have about 7 years of experience ( 3 as a staff accountant, 2 as a Financial Systems developer and 2 in my current role). This is pretty much the ceiling for managerial accounting without a CPA/CMA in this company.

I primarily analyze sales volumes to compute incentive compensation, and also do future projections whenever HR wants to tweak the plans.

I'd say this is one of the best positions to prepare yourself for a Controller position down the line. I am constantly deeply involved with “the numbers” for all of our Lines Of Business.

I use a TON of Oracle SQL, Microsoft SQL Server, SAP's Crystal Reports, and of course Excel. I think that makes my Resume look pretty impressive, so I'm pretty happy with the position.

@youngCPA the term financial analyst is so broad that it is not worth looking at day-to-day functions of others because most likely they won't relate to yours at all. However you should be at least getting a senior title. Your best bet is to look for plant assistant controller positions.

I can't believe this is over! 2 years and 3 months..
