Finishing one chapter takes so long (FAR). Is this normal?

I just started to study for CPA and I chose FAR as my first test.

So I’m a newbie to this whole CPA exam and I was very shocked that finishing one chapter takes so much time.

I was studying for F3 and it took me almost 3 full day (definitely including slack time. maybe a lot) to read the chapter and do HW.

Doing HW definitely takes a lot of time because I’m solving it carefully and reading explanation for each question.

(hw score varies on section in the chapter but usually 70-75%)

So I was wondering if it is normal to take so much time for each chapter.

I’m planning to take this exam at the end of August (about 6 weeks left) and I’m only working part-time (20 hours) so I think I can make 200-250 hours for this exam.

I know most people don’t pass FAR at first try because of its enormous study amount but I really want to pass this exam at one shot 🙁

For FAR, totally normal. Don't worry too much.. just keep at it. It will start to fall into place as you work through the chapters. Remember to keep going back and doing some review questions on previous chapters so you keep it fresh.

    BEC - 02/21/15 - 82
    FAR - 05/29/15 - 82
    AUD - 07/09/15 - 93
    REG - 11/14/15 - 80

    All done!!!

They don't call it the ‘FAR Beast' and give everyone 18 months to pass all four exams for nothing.

    FAR - 80

I think it's normal. I just took FAR at the beginning of the month I would listen to the Becker lectures and do about half the multiple choice questions the same day I listened to the lecture, so it took 10 days to get through the book once and do half of the questions. Then, Over the second 10 days, I re-read all chapters very carefully while taking detailed notes (took about 4 hours) then did the rest of the multiple choice questions (another 4 hours).

I only studied about 3 weeks for FAR but I studied a lot- 8 hours a day 7 days a week. Re-reading the chapters and working new multiple choice questions helped me a lot. I honestly think 200-250 hours is more than enough, I did about 170 and when my exam was coming up I was so sick of studying I couldn't even sit still for 2 hours to review.

    AUD- 99
    FAR- 93
    BEC- 90
    REG- 94

FAR took me forever to get through because of a lot of math intensive homework.

Expect FAR to take the longest of all the exams. The massive amounts of materials to cover and intensive heavy calculations will require a lot of time to study for. I'm taking the exam next week and have been studying for it since December. Although, I was studying AUD at the same time as well too. So take the time to know the materials.

    AUD - 90
    BEC - 78
    FAR - 84
