Hi guys.. I have my very first public accounting job interview.

    Little background of me-

I graduated with accounting degree in May 2013 and landed myself a job at an insurance firm in July 2013. I work there as accountant 1 and my job responsibilities are shared between two departments – treasury and investments. I really wanted to get in to public but I never got a call/interview from any public accounting firms which made me scared and hearing how hard it is to get the job I accepted this insurance position. Pay is not too bad which is another reason I accepted the offer. But now I really dont enjoy what I do and already want to move out of that place.

Today I got call from this public accounting firm and I was recommended by my ex recruiter (local small private firm I interviewed at and was rejected). It is a midsize firm and the interview is scheduled on Tuesday. Now my concern is, as much as I want to move out of my current job and want this public accounting job I am also scared that changing job within one year is also not a good move. And its small world.. not too hard to hear things nowadays

Anyway what do you guys think I should do? Should I take leap of faith and go for it or wait out some more time at current job and then go fishing. Also, my current job is paying for CPA exam including review material and I have signed agreement that if I leave company or dont pass at least two exam in one year I will have to pay back to the company.

I am so confused and just not sure what to do. Please help me get through this confusion and make a decision.

PS anyone who have interviewed at public I would really appreciate if I could get some tips/common questions asked at the interview.

If you aren't happy in your current job, why would you stay? … Especially if you already hate it and it hasn't even been a year.

As long as you're not planning on leaving on bad terms, I wouldn't worry about the how long you've been with the company (unless this is 1 of 20 jobs you've had in the last 5 years, then you'll have a problem).

A friend of mine started off in accounting interning at a different company each year. When he graduated, he went with a company but couldn't stand them, so 3 months later he jumped on a new opportunity with another audit company (different type of audit engagements though). Less than a year later, he's offered a position as an internal auditor for one of his clients. Best decision he made. He's very happy now. He was just as afraid as you were.

I'm sure the potential employer will understand you're reason for leaving.

    BEC - 80
    AUD - 64, 75 - credit lost, 90!!
    REG - 73, 74, 83
    FAR - 61, 72, 85

Feels good finishing on my best note. Time to watch the mailbox.
