First time test taker…nervous doesn't explain it

I’m sooo nervous. I take BEC for the very first time on Thursday Morning…I don’t feel prepared. I’m working & re-working practice exams & re-reading the entire Becker book tomorrow. I’ve been studying non stop for the past week but had a progressive study schedule for the last month.

I’m so nervous that I’m going to crap my pants…I’m an investment accountant & could probably use another 3 days of studying – I’ve only got two however. Any last minute advice for the kid from Ohio?

The proctors walk around the room every few minutes, don't let it distract you. I was totally weirded out my first time thinking the proctor was walking over just to look at me… Like what am I doing wrong? Give yourself plenty of time to get there, bring your NTS and ID… Just breathe!

    FAR - 7/13 - 72, 11/13- 74, 2/14- 82!!! Best score ever (for me)!!!
BEC - 1/14 - 75!!! Perfect score! First Pass! YAY!!!
    AUD - 8/14 - 80!!!
    REG - 5/14 - 72, 10/14 - 66, 1/15 - 78 - DONE FOREVER!!!

Nobody is ever totally prepared for this damn thing, your test day jitters will be gone 2 minutes into the test; you have to trust your preparation. Take a couple deep breaths, go shit in your pants if it makes you feel better and then hit another 100 mcq's.

None of the prometric proctors walk around the test center I go too. I was extremely nervous the first time I went too and I believe that is why I did so terrible on my first exam. The whole wanding, finger print, lift up your pants legs like your about to board a flight made it all worse. Thankfully I knew what to expect the next time and was prepared. Just breathe, concentrate, and expect to get the full once over when you get there.

    FAR - 46, 79 (7/8/14)
    AUD - 56, 59, 2/23/15 3rd times a charm!

I would probably add to take it a little easy on your day before. MCQs are mentally draining and you want to walk into your prometric center fresh not burnt out.

What I've done. I pound MCQs and maybe a few sims the week of up to two days before. I then make a detailed notes page on my three weakest major topics plus various subtopics on the others that cause me problems (think no more than one page of typed notes). Two days before I go 50/50 MCQ/notes memorization. Day before I put away the MCQs and focus solely on the notes. Night before I take my girlfriend out for a really nice dinner and a drink or two (no more). Sleep in (I do a noon test time) and get ready to go. Spend another hour or so on notes and then head in.

It goes against your instinct but I'm a huge fan of this process or something like it that will allow you to walk in fresh and relaxed. I'm 2 for 2, the real test will be if it works for REG in a couple weeks 🙂

Just keep in mind that bec is by far the easiest exam. It is also one of the shortest and has a pass rate of almost 60% save your nerves for far. Also u could take a xanax.

Don't be nervous. It's not a jury sentencing.

Also, I can assure you- you'll never feel prepared and you probably won't feel good about how you did, ESPECIALLY when you pass.

You could drink a 12 pack in the parking lot? Remember that post? haha…

I agree with billbrasskey, you'll most likely feel awful leaving the exam. The one I felt the absolute worst about was FAR when I scored an 82, Torture!

Don't crap your pants while in the testing center. It makes for a very uncomfortable 3-4 hours.

    REG: May 2014 - 83
    BEC: July 2014 - 82

I've smelt worse in those testing centers. The smell of a fresh one actually wouldn't be that out of the ordinary.

Just breathe and relax. This isn't life or death. I missed BEC by ten points and I'm still here so just chill. If you don't get that 75 there's always next time.

Ahh man, you guys are awesome. Thanks for the encouragement! It's been such a long road to get to this point & now that I'm here I'm so nervous..I'll really try not to crap my pants tho lol.

I do know that MC is very mentally draining so it's hard on me. I'll try to get a really good nights sleep on Wednesday night….and if I don't pass – I won't crap my pants lol :/

@ Grwnldy I have my first exam BEC on Thursday morning too! So we'll be testing at the same time – I'm in SD tho! I'm with you on the nervousness – I've been at a low level of panic since Sunday night. 🙂 I went to a movie last night with a friend and then did some MCQ when I got home. I'm hitting them hard tonight and then tomorrow I'm leaving work a little early and going to the sauna (an infrared sauna – I love it and it's really relaxing), getting sushi and doing just a few MCQ and then trying to sleep.

This is what I keep telling myself ( over and over and over): Breathe, remember you're prepared, breathe, “don't worry about nothing, pray about everything,” breathe and what will be, will be! Sometimes I even believe myself!

Gook Luck! BEC here we come!

    BEC 8.14.14 - 87!
    FAR 1.8.15 - 89!
    REG 4.15.15 - 86!
    AUD 7.2.15 - 90!

    Application submitted 8.6.15
    Licensed CPA 8.19.15

Benefit in living in a small state SD!
