Typically firms will avoid answering specific questions regarding why your interview was rejected to avoid any sort of legal liability. Generally they'll give you vague answers about why you weren't selected for interview. Do you have a sample cover letter that you're sending? What's your resume like? Do you have any prior experience in public accounting?
The last question, in my opinion, is the most important. At my firm we've had a few recent graduates who just simply were not ready for full time employment. They were fired shortly after being hired. In other words, firms are taking substantial risk in hiring straight out of college and will want to see some sort of internship in public accounting before they commit to full time employment.
I myself had trouble finding a job after college – I botched a few interviews and wasn't getting many bites. My solution: I interned for 6 months at a public accounting firm doing tax, audit, and administrative work. The experience landed me a job within a week of the internship concluding.
If you haven't already done so, find an internship. If you haven't found one, try revamping your cover letter or resume. If you're botching phone interviews, that is completely normal and you'll become more confident with time. Good luck in your search.
