I’m hearing from a lot of people that FAR has a lot of IFRS on it.

For those of you who’ve taken FAR recently, do you feel Becker prepared you well for IFRS?

Yea, I think overall Becker does a pretty good job on IFRS. It is hard to remember everything but I have nothing to complain about with Becker when it comes to IFRS. The only thing I didn't think Becker did a good job at compared to my exam was simulations.

    Completely agree with KelzMS.

Becker's huge chart comparing IFRS to GAAP is more than satisfactory. I'm sure I was tested on IFRS so the fact that I don't remember a single question is a good thing. I only remember the questions/sims that haunt me. šŸ™‚

Know the chart and know the big differences, that Becker goes over often.

    FAR 7/3/13 - 82
    BEC 8/21/13 - 82
    AUD 10/2/13 - 92
    REG 12/3/13 - 88

Yeah, I just kept making chapter-by-chapter notes on the differences (Wiley has them at the end of every chapter and also does a general comparison in the beginning). It's tough because some of the stuff is the same and some is exactly opposite, so now try remembering what is what. Still, statistically speaking, you still have a good shot at answering an IFRS question, cause you will either assume that it's the same as GAAP or it is the reverse, hah. Not in all cases, but definitely in some šŸ™‚

Yes, Becker is great at covering IFRS. Focus on the differences. One of the chapters, I think the last one, does a summary of ALL the differences it covered throughout the book. It also has a nice summary page for comparison.

    A - 80 (2/3/14) first attempt!
    R - 89 (7/31/13) first attempt!

I agree, Some IFRS material is tested and Becker covers it all. I live in a country where IFRS is practiced (Not GAAP) so it wasnt bad for me.

    FAR (21/7/2013) 75!
    BEC (23/7/2013) 83!
    AUD (28/2/2014) 67
    REG (27/2/2014) 84
    AUD (18/4/2014) 83

    I'M DONE!!!!!

Yeah that summary towards the end of Becker really helped bring a lot of the differences together for me.

    FAR 02/21/13 - 95
    REG 07/02/13 - 87
    AUD 08/02/13 - 94
    BEC 08/30/13 - 85
    Ethics Exam - 90

I have Yaeger/Wiley CPA review material and when I compared how they covered IFRS to how Becker does it, it's a no brainier. I ended up using my friends Becker book for FAR to help me pass. Becker IFRS all the way!! Yaeger has some nice summary notes that cover the challenging areas, but the Wiley book treats IFRS like an afterthought and doesn't really do it justice like Becker. The Wiley test bank and the Wiley book don't have many IFRS questions either, so keep that in mind. I don't know how many Becker has, but if I had to guess they probably have more. You will get IFRS questions that will be on par with any US GAAP question and you'll be expected to know it.

Having said all that, no review program is perfect and you simply have to figure out where yours is lacking and plug the gaps.

I just took FAR on Friday and think that Becker did a great job with IFRS. Not only do they mention the differences in the actual material in the textbook, but they also have a good amount of practice problems on IFRS. I actually really liked this, because I could learn the differences while learning the material in each lecture, then practice the differences with the multiple choice questions, and really hammer it in with the big GAAP vs. IFRS part of the last chapter and the large set of MCQs they provide.

Took FAR last week and think Becker does a good amount of coverage on IFRS. The challenge is getting a good handle around all the differences, but the information is there.
