So first things first. This is NOT a bragging thread. I am not bragging and I don’t feel like reading about anyone else bragging.

Second, I am very happy with my job and I am not looking to change at all, this is purely just out of curiosity.

So I got through all exams. First attempt for each. Started studying May 14, finished my last exam end of Jan 15. I am very proud of myself, so regardless of anything else, getting through it the first time is such a gratifying feeling.

Anyway, when going to an interview, talking with a higher up at your company, etc, is there any good way to bring up that you passed all on the first try without sounding like you’re bragging?

“Oh so I see you passed the exam..”

“Yep, luckily on the first try”

Just curious if any one has any experience on this

    AUD - July 2014 - 76
    REG - August 2014 - 82
    FAR - November 2014 - 78
    BEC - January 2015 - 81

    DONE!!!!

Used Becker online. Who needs a text when you can burn your eyes out staring at the screen for months on end?

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you're hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"

    @OP

I'm curious to know if it makes a difference in a positive manner. Hopefully some hiring managers here can chime in. From what I've seen, employers only care if you have it or not.

Because you don't know your audience I wouldn't even bring it up unless asked. I personally think it's great that someone passed all 4 on the first attempt. I'm equally impressed by the mommies who take more attempts but get through it while working full time and raising a family and I wouldn't bring THAT up in a interview either. Bottom line is, employers really don't care whether it took 4 tries or 40 if you passed. Unless you're an EWS winner, only say you've passed all 4.

In my house no. Daddy is great but doesn't lead the Girl Scout troop, coach cheer, check homework, or leave work for dr appointments. If a daddy does that stuff, then yes mommies and daddies!

I wouldn't bring it up personally and would only say so if I was asked if I passed it on the first try.

mla1169, If OnMyWay732 would go to an interview where you are the hiring manager, and he tells you with a smirk on his face that he passed all 4 on his first try and then he proceeds to ask you if you also passed all 4 parts on your first try, would you consider him for the job? Assuming that the rest of the interview went well, and he is the best candidate.

I am a hiring manager and I wouldn't bring it up. I agree with mla–I would be just as impressed with someone that passed all 4 the first time right out of college as I would be with someone that kept going at it after a fail, but also juggled a job and a family. That could be because I did it that way. I failed two the first time, but with all that I had going on I am just as proud of myself for finishing it at all. You won't know the back ground of who you are talking to. They could take it as bragging if they failed one or or they could think, “Well whoop-dee-doo. I passed all 4 on the first try too.” Without knowing them, I wouldn't risk it.

I talked to my boss after I failed an exam once. I was very stressed. He told me the exam doesn't change much. Once you pass the exam and become licensed your still not going to “know” anything and I'll have to teach you the “real” way. I think he was just trying to make me feel better but he made it sound like passing the test is important but weather you get all 99's on your first try or all 75's on your tenth try it's all the same.

It doesn't make you any better, we all have our own circumstances. I passed all four the first time but all I had was a full time job. So many people have so many other responsibilities. Anyone who passes regardless of how many attempts would be cool in my hiring book.

Sorry I went MIA…I never really had any intention of bringing it up, I was just curious if people have. My current manager knows that I passed them all on my first try so it's a non-issue, but when I applied I had 2 passed. In talking with him I believe I brought it ups something like this. He asked me why I feel I am the best candidate and I responded to the likings of “I become fully dedicated to everything I do..yada yada making it not sound so cliche..right now I'm two for two on the CPA and it's not to brag but just to demonstrate my commitment to what's important”.

I guess realistically it does not hold any much more value than just passing it (just like getting four 75s is no different than getting four 90s)

I would only be impressed if someone passed on their first try with all 75s. Now that deserves a high five.

Exactly. A 300 CPA at the end of the day is the same as a 396 CPA. What counts is what you bring to the table at work.

I had candidates (that I did hire) bring up that they passed all four parts on the first try. It didn't sway me one way or another. I was happy for them, they worked hard. But they did do it as a full time job so to speak in a 6 month window. Just them and their study material for 6 months. While I am over here, the manager, working easily 50 hour weeks, with 4 kids, sports and a husband at home waiting on dinner after work. And after all of that I get to study until 1 am.

We all have different lives that affect how long our journey is, but at the end of the day, passing in itself is a good testament of work ethic and determination. So that says a lot. It could always be a great way to show how you work through tough times or how you handle working under pressure.
