Forums creating doubt?

So, I don’t want to sound like I’m ragging on the forum, because I like the fact that the community is there to help with questions/concerns, but does anyone else feel less confident about their upcoming exam after sitting here and reading responses for 10 minutes?!? Haha…I’m taking BEC on Friday – 4/12 and have been feeling OK, like I haven’t been too worried. Then I come on here tonight and read some stories about people doing progressively worse, multiple retakes and just general uneasiness and it makes me worried!

    Anyone else feel this way?

On the flip side, when you do doubt yourself (and most people will at some point in this process) it is comforting to know most people do as well and we all end up licensed CPA's eventually……….

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

Yes, forums can definitely create doubt and unnecessary worry. I look at it like this, there are 3 types of forum contributers:

    1. Always pessimistic and/or drama inducers

    2. Over the top confident some times straight up bragging liars

    3. Average Joe/Jane: honest to a fault, share ups, downs, and in-betweens in a sincere way.

You have to take what you read with a grain of salt and trust you are doing everything you can to pass. Then, when you get your score, you will have a better idea of what to expect and how to filter through other people's experiences.

I find a the majority of information from the A71 community is extremely motivating and helpful. Then there are times I read a post and just roll my eyes. Sometimes I respond to those, lol, but as a moderator I try to bite my tongue (fingers?) a lot.

I think that may be a reason Jeff blessed me with the title!

    Good luck on BEC!!!

@LinkA8A0A, If I listened to the doubt my first reads on this site created I would have just quit this whole thing. But I learned to figure out the personalities(perfectly outlined by MCLKT) and get the best out of this forum. I have passed my three exams since joining this forum and I believe it had a lot to do with the motivation and help from A71. For me I don't put my passing scores in my signature in efforts NOT to sound overconfident in any way or misleading(no offense to those who post them, it's my personal decision). People only need to know I defeated those particular exams I passed, not the final score. Please remember everyone is different and is taking a different experience from this journey but we still do all have the exam in common. Hope your score comes out good for you! We are all here rooting for you.

MCLKT, you are spot on once again!!!! 🙂

@OP YOU know what is best for you, so take everything you read with a grain of salt!

Occasionally I do question some of the assertions out there (ridiculous example: OMG, I only studied for 2 weeks for REG and didn't finish 5 sims but I pulled out a 99! Yeah…sure you did.) BUT in my opinion I think 90%+ of the members are tremendously helpful, kind, genuine, and willing to lend an ear anytime on any topic. I can't imagine going through this “slow train ride through hell” without support of awesome people like MCLKT, Kricket, Nam, BRNHilton and way too many more to name off the top of my head! I love that those who've passed still contribute and support those of us who haven't made it through to the other side! I've been a registered member since 4/26/11 but never dared to post/share/comment/contribute until the past few months. The overall tone on some of the threads in the past (in my humble opinion only) was often harsh, especially to those who weren't “one and done” on each part, but now those voices are gone and the tone is supportive and encouraging. It's not all puppies, rainbows, and sunshine because if you used my absurd example from above and modified the end result to “I got a 50 and I don't know why”, loads of members would call BS in 2.5 second flat and that's how it should be! I find I use A71 way more that FB these days, it's a great community we have here!!!! 🙂

    PS: I'm definitely a 3 😉

    REG: 75 DONE 🙂
    AUD: 61, 71, 68, 92 DONE 🙂
    BEC: 76 DONE 🙂
    FAR: 72, 74, 79 DONE 🙂

Thanks for the feedback! I enjoy reading about the experiences/stories, hopefully I can just focus on what lies ahead and know that I am in control of the outcome here and hope I've given myself the tools to succeed.

I'm using the becker self-study program and took the first of two review exams last night and scored 79, 75, 79 on the three multiple choice sections without any book aid, so hopefully I can put in a similar performance tomorrow afternoon. I think I'm going to go home after work today and take the second practice exam, do a little review and see what happens.

Keep your head up! This board is mostly positive and/or people looking for motivation(sometimes turning a negative into a positive.)

The best part about the A71 community is everyone is going through the same thing. In anything we do there will always be someone smarter, faster, etc. Does that mean we should all stop because of it? No, sometimes the faster kid doesn't win the race.

At the end of the day the person who passes all exams the first time gets the same certificate as the person who needs 37 tries to pass!

I personally have found AUD, which hopefully is my last exam to be the hardest to stay motivated. Not sure why, but I remember Keely saying the same thing about her final exam.

I think we can all agree that months of studying, thousands of MCQ's and a correct guess or two is needed

to get the coveted PASS on score release day! Find your motivation and work…go HAM…go BEASTMODE…go whatever it takes to achieve your goals!

    BEC-75!
    AUD-84!
    REG-78!
    FAR-83!
    Ethics-Passed!
    Experience-Got that too

Who's to say that doubt is detrimential to your success?

My philosopy for studying for the exam is making myself think that I won't pass. This state of mind motivates me to study more, do more MC's and simulations.

Once you start to believe that you will pass, you'll begin to slack off

    BEC - 89
    REG - 89
    AUD - 95
    FAR - 90
