    Interviewing tip:

Most interviews will start with a seemingly simple question: “Tell me a little bit about yourself.” Answer this question by communicating all of your best qualities, skills, talents; everything you want the interviewer to know about you that you may not have the chance to talk about in the rest of the interview. Since this is such a common question, rehearse what you will say beforehand to make it a cohesive, concise statement of who you are and why they should hire you.

    1) Make sure the job is a good fit for both sides, you and the employer. There is nothing worse than settling for a job just because it is the first one available. Make sure you are going to fit well with the current employees and management.

General Career Tip – Don't be afraid to go for jobs that you may not meet all of the qualifications for. The worst that can happen is they say no.

    Career Tip

2.) Don't be too naive when staff and seniors “prepare” you for what work life balance will actually be when you start full time.

#4 Be social! Always go to those events you want to bail on at the last minute. That's where I end up networking the most and making long term connections with others in the same field. Particularly industry specific events, but actually I've met more at random happy hours through mutual friends.

Take any internship you can get that won't cause you to lose your mind. I took a simple minor league baseball internship and it ended up being my full blown access to everything in QuickBooks and I learned so many different aspects of a small business accounting requirements and just ended up getting so much exposure to things I may not have. It also included life events that I can reflect on. I saw at the time the world series ring and actually got to hold it because we were presenting it to a teammate on the opposing ball clubs team that was on the team the previous year.

Just worth getting different exposure, but also doing things you may not have done otherwise.

#4) No matter what position you're in / task you're given, don't half ass things. Don't think you're too good for certain tasks. Attention to detail goes a long way.

    Interview Tip:

Always research the company you are interviewing for! Showing a general knowledge for the company goes a long way with the interviewers.

General Tip – when assigned a task and you have no clue on how to do it, look back at history to see how it done was before

#1 Interview Tip – Use the resources available to you. If you are aware of the people you will be interviewing with look them up on linkedin to see their career history if any, interests, and what schools they went to. This will help create conversation and allow you to bond with the interviewer on things other than the position. Sometimes a perfect fit personality wise to a position is better than smarts.

#4 General – Be open minded about your career. Try new things, help on new projects, assist with tackling a deadline, you never know what topic might catch your interest.

Interviewing/networking: most of the time people remember to give you their business card. sometimes they won't. this doesn't mean they don't want to, giving out their business card is part of the reason they're at the event in the first place, it just means they forgot. so don't leave without reminding them. it really sucks when you talk to a guy for 20 minutes and feel like you made a valuable connection and then can't send a followup email or you forgot his name and feel incredibly awkward next time you see him or what have you.
