I have had my NTS since March 1. I have paid to take FAR and REG. My intentions was to study all of March and be ready for Far the second week of April. I switched review materials because I just couldn’t get into it and now its the second week of April. So, I am studying and studying but so many things have come up ( mainly funerals) to where I am off schedule. So I want to give myself a good six weeks of consistent study through May, then start studying for Reg, but I just can’t bring myself to make the call……I am frozen. Help

I'm sorry to hear about your recent passings. It's always hard to regather yourself after losing close ones.

But I wanna warn you that this journey is going to be long. Unless you're an accounting prodigy, you're gonna have trials and tribulations where you'll lose confidence or lose determination. But without being mentally strong, you are not going to pass. You can't bank on luck just because these exams are MCs and SIMs.

I think for you, you should take a step back and consider how much you want to be a CPA. If you truly want it bad enough, you'll always find a way. LIke for me, I really really really needed it I felt. So even as devasting it was to see that I got a 69 in Auditing and with Christmas time rolling around and everyone around me being so joyful while I was at the lowest point, I managed to find strength. So what I did was squeeze 3 exams into the next testing window from Jan. 11 to Feb 28. I passed 3 exams—REG, AUD and BEC in that span and scored in the 80s. I was so mad after I failed Auditing that it actually pushed me so much harder. If you have that drive to become a CPA, you wont let yourself make excuses. And I dont know if you'll find this drive later on, but the sooner the better.

If you know anyone else who's also studying, try to team up with them.

I am sorry to hear for your losses. Personal issues and problems make this journey very difficult.

My best advice is you need to pick a date schedule it and stick to it. When does your NTS expire? Can you do FAR in May and REG in July? Then AUD/BEC in Aug.

I know how hard it is to push yourself, I have been there. My first time at this exam i would postpone, postpone and postpone till my NTS was about to expire never study enough and always fail. When I started studying again I have set dates and tried to stick with them. It hasn't always worked (sandy got in the way, I couldn't motivate myself to study for FAR) But once i had a date i tried to map out hours of studying each day, not topics to meet 20 hours a week if i want o over it was a bonus if i was under i had to make them up. You need to really push yourself. There are always going to be things going on that are more important then this exam but you need to balance them its the only way to succeed.

Finally done!

This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!

I appreciate the warm wishes….I lost two very good friends to breast cancer both was a real shock. Anyway…I have made several attempts to be consistent. Yes I have read chapters and watched a few videos, but I can study better than that….I don't know why I am drawing back from making the call……I'm frozen.

The biggest thing is to be honest with yourself about your priorities right now. Life is much larger than the CPA, and if there are things going on in life that truly are your priority you should give them your attention. The CPA exams require so very much of you. And unless we are positively committed we won't pass. The half-effort studying will only be a waste of time. Either commit and do the work 100% or be real with yourself and do what you really want to do. If you haven't passed any sections (the clock isn't ticking). It may be worthwhile to take a break until you have the undeniable drive Sammy is talking about. If your clock is ticking, don't give up. Dig down deep, and force yourself to continue. I've read many horror stories of people that began, passed some, gave up only to start all over again. Don't do that to yourself.

I halfass studied for a year. What a sad waste. Then got super committed and passed 2 in 3 months (including study time).

My mind is made up and am willing to do what it takes to pass and not let this test window go without progress. I won't be afraid to fail because I will not fail. My nts expires the end of August…plenty of time to get it done. I feel the ice melting…..I am really grateful for this site.
