    Hello everyone,

I need some help with my current CPA license situation. I have a current North Carolina CPA license but I no longer live in that state. It is my original license and I plan to keep it current/active. I have since moved to Georgia and I applied for a reciprocal license but was denied by NASBA due to lacking 9 semester hours of upper-level accounting to meet the 30 hours required by GA.

I only have a bachelor’s degree in accounting but I was able to get the required 150 hours when I transferred schools after my sophomore year. I’m pretty sure having a master’s of accountancy would have helped me to avoid this situation but the time for that has long passed.

What would be the easiest way to go about obtaining the 9 semester hours that I’m missing? I don’t really think it would be practical to enroll in a degree/program at a university and then quit after 1 semester once I’ve gotten my hours but I’m kind of at a loss on how to proceed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

cbb6188, check with your state board and local community college to inquire about College Level Examination Placement (CLEP) tests. Basically, you pay ~$100 and take a test to prove you've mastered the materials and the college gives you credit for an equivalent course. It seems Michigan accepted them because I had more than 150 credits when I had only completed 123 for undergrad and part of my MBA program so it seems they gave me credit for the CLEP exams.

If they allow this you should be able to knock out 9 credit hours in a month or so without a ton of cost.
