General questions about accepting a job offer

I got two interviews recently and I like the second company better. But, because of the timeframe of the interviews, I think the first company will tell me the result faster.

I was wondering if I should accept a job offer immediately if the first one wants to hire me. There is no guarantee if I’ll get an offer from the second one. If I honestly tell them the situation, they would no longer want to hire me?

I don’t know actual hiring process, if they usually give candidates some time to decide. They are both small companies. Please let me know how I should handle this situation.

Ask both companies what their timeline is. Under the assumption that you'll get an offer from both: the slower one to respond – tell them you are interested, but are also looking at another offer whose response time is short (on such and such date). This way you can see the offers from both companies, and have some time to compare and decide.

Find out when you intereview what the timelines are of each company that way you will kind of know when you should hear back.

If the first company offers you a job before you hear back from the 2nd company, you should ask the first company for some time to consider the offer. This is general practice and 2 days is usually acceptable. Then contact the 2nd company and say i am really interested in working for your firm, however, i have received an offer from a different firm. Could you please tell me where i stand with your company and if i will be offered a position. (or something along those lines). Give the 2nd company about a day or so to respond if they dont that means you werent going to get offered and accept the offer you already have.

Ask the first company what is the time frame for getting back to them. Then contact the second company and see when you can expect a reply.
