    Hello!

I attempted the CPA exam in 2012-2013, and there was just too much going on in my life to focus. First year pubic accounting, moving into a new house, getting engaged, planning a wedding… it was a lot. So I took some time off from the exam. I am ready to get back into it and need some advice! Anyone else out there with some words of wisdom?

    Thanks!

Choose a lecture course that is best suited to your learning style because you're going to spend a lot of time with him/her/them. For me, Roger was that guy. He jokes around, and is easygoing. What I needed the most was motivation and he kept me motivated.

Next up, when in doubt, do MCs. Do MCs until you can't go any longer.

And the most important part of all: Be consistent. Make a study schedule and keep it.

    BEC x1 - Passed
    REG x2 - Passed
    Audit x1 - Passed
    FAR x2 - Passed

    BEC: ☑ x1 attempt(s)
    REG: ☑ x2 ''
    AUD: ☑ x1 ''
    FAR: ☑ x2 ''

    Done!

You'll be spending lot's of time with guys name Becker, Roger, Gleim, Wiley's, and etc. So don't be surprised if your wife complains about not spending enough quality time with her. Heck, she may even accuse you of cheating on her with Becker, Roger, Gleim, Wiley's, etc.

Here's my advice. If you took time off and are getting back into it, then go 120% and get that sucker done. Don't drag it out and take time off. Having an uncompleted exam hanging over your head gets old quickly.

AUD // F x2 P 92- (Test server crashed! It really does happen!)
    REG // F, F, F, P - 75 Aug 2014
    BEC // P - 80
FAR // F, F...now its time for my greatest trick yet.
    Ethics // Very.

Don't forget about that other guy…Jeff something? 🙂

@Sleep Optional makes good points – focus on MCQs, especially in those last couple of weeks before your exams. Keep to a schedule – I was fortunate in that it was just me, but I sure found ways to not study, and plenty of justification for moving tests around. That 18 months goes by faster than you think, and let's be honest – who wants this thing hanging over their heads for a full year and a half??

You'll hear plenty of opinions about what study strategy is best, what review course is best, what order of exams are the best, etc. The truth is, it's different for everyone. Try out a study strategy or two, but if it's not working, it's not working. Figure something else out. Sooner or later you'll figure out what works for you.

Whatever you do, don't lose sight of the end goal!! This thing can be really frustrating, especially when you're having to take time away from friends and family. But the sooner you get it done, the sooner you'll get your life back and be able to move up in your career. Good luck!! 🙂

Don't half ass it. Commit 100%. It really sucks when you only give about 75% and see a score in the low 70's on score release day.
