I am wondering, if you work for a public accounting fir, but not as an auditor or tax accountant, but in the department that provides “controller services” to the clients (G/L accounting, financial statements, etc.), is it any good career-wise?

I mean, we all know that a lot of auditors after 3-5 years might end up in industry as Managers or Assistant Controllers, Tax people might become Tax Managers at some big corporations or open small firms of their own. But if you are doing accounting for clients, would you have the same chances to get a good job in industry after 3-5 years???
