Has anyone here used Gleim to successfully pass FAR? I am trying to decide between the traditional and premium version. The only difference (for me) is the video lectures. Did you find them helpful?

    FAR - 08/30/15 - 90
    AUD - 11/12/15 - 92
    REG - 01/19/16 - 82
    BEC - 02/29/16 - 83

Passed all on 1st attempt using GLEIM (full program) and NINJA (MCQ only)!!!

I used the gleim FAR video lectures. I thought they were very engaging an helpful. The professor is very engaging and funny at times. I think it is a great way to learn the material…but they did take up a lot of time. Just be sure to allot yourself enough time to get through them to have plenty of time for multiple choice questions. If you do not like reading and are looking for a comprehensive video course, this would work great. He covers about 85% of all the material contained in the books.

Personally I thought the FAR multiple choice questions from gleim were by far the hardest of any section. I needed a change of pace and ordered the ninja mcq and that helped a lot.

    Good luck!

    Audit(11/5/13) - 89
    Reg(5/16/14) - 86
    FAR(7/18/14) - 82
    BEC(11/14) - 85

I used Gleim for all 4 sections and I found it prepared me very well. I have both the audiovisual presentations and the lectures, but Gleim suggests you watch one or the other. I think I watched 1 lecture and went to the audiovisual only after that. The lectures seem to put things in a more “real life” context, but they are also much longer than the audiovisual presentations. It all depends on how much time you have, what your study plan is, and how your personal learning style works.

LSS, you don't need the lectures to pass FAR using Gleim. The book, audiovisual presentations, and their MCQs and SIMs were more than enough to get me an 86.

I did not think the FAR questions on Gleim were unreasonably difficult. However, for REG, they include some questions from the Enrolled Agent exam which are waaaaaay to specific and detailed regarding thresholds, limitations, phaseouts, etc.

I use gleim, love the lectures basically you could listen to the lectures instead of reading the book. I failed auditing though, but it was just bc of the sims and I wasted halfhour freaking out I excelled on MC. I find gleim and ninja (especially sims) very similar. Plus, unlike other materials (saw in this forum) I have never found an error in gleim.

wanna add that I used to ask gleim questions abt the material that confused me and I got a nasty reply basically stating that I have to figure it out myself as this is the learning process, that they didnt answer those types of questions…. I was wtf but didn't make a huge deal bc I had just found this forum my life saver/sanity saver ninja group ,….

Whoa, Trish, I've seen that disclaimer but have never actually had that response, and I have asked a ton of questions! Still, their q&a could use work. i hate waiting days for a response, by then you're on another topic.

And did i really say “to specific”?! Eek, that's horrendous. Call it a typo. 🙂

And yes, 3 years and 4 tests in gleim and i never found a single error except one Sim in reg was using a wrong threshold. Believe me, i thought i found dozens of mistakes per section, but they proved me wrong every time. Couldn't believe i finally got one, but to put it in perspective, 1 question out of maybe 7 on that tab out of 7 tabs, not much on the points.

Most impressive, when i was studying auditing, i attempted to know every single mcq in the course and why it was right or wrong. Dr gleim actually called me himself to warn me and go over my study habits with me. I couldn't believe that he was so invested in one random candidate. Turned aaround my study habits and i passed all 4 on my first try.

If you can do well on your exam rehearsal in gleim, you should be just fine.

    Good luck!

someone else in this forum was saying the same thing abt “asking gleim a question” and Gleim representative replied to the thread lol apologizing… Was weird that out of the blue gleim pops up replying….

I never used Becker and was contemplating buying it after I failed AUD just bc it dominates the market and its pricy (so it must be the best right!!) but from what I read in this forum and other places it sounds like it is not the best in the market or atleast its compatible to other cheaper materials in the market and its just overpriced…. Gleim is really compatible or even better (again never used becker) ………The issue with the CPA exam is SIMS and no emphasize NO material in the market can prepare you for SIMS

Also, Ninja test bank rocks, great value for ur money… questions are difficult and covers all areas… but like I said its similar to gleim as in difficult level some sims are the same (gleim is more expensive) but the lectures on gleim rock loooove em..

    good luck everyone

Gleim worked well for me and I used just the basic FAR one without lectures. My book was also from a previous year. I personally thought the study material and quizzes were harder than the exam. I thought it prepared me very well.

Thanks for all the great input. I bought the complete traditional package back in 2007 (they didn't have the premium one then). It has expired, but I get to renew and a GREAT price. From your comments I decided to renew the FAR section only with traditional (no lectures). I renewed yesterday and began studying the up to date material last night (I was studying from my 2007 book before that). I am planning to add in NINJA MCQ and possibly NINJA notes.

I decided on FAR first because I think it will be the most difficult, as I have been out of school for 13 years, work all day (home to home is approximately 10.5 hours) and have 2 young children. It has the most material to study and I think I have “forgotten” so much. Depending on my score, I may add in the Roger video lectures for other sections.

Next Question — What to do with my 2007 books and audio CD's???

    FAR - 08/30/15 - 90
    AUD - 11/12/15 - 92
    REG - 01/19/16 - 82
    BEC - 02/29/16 - 83

You will do fine. Good choice with FAR in addition to being difficult it has the most material to cover and AUD SIMS most often than not has a tab or 2 that requires journal entries so its good to start with FAR. I started in AUD bc it was the last class I took in school so I thought that the material would be fresh but tell you the truth school aud class did not prepare me at all for cpa test lolol

    lil advice

on the exam use AL to help complete sims … some ppl have reported that they found word for word answers to 3-4 sims on the real exam ( I never thought of that on my exam)

    good luck!

I just want a program that goes over tons of MCQ's in the lectures, not just one or two. I find that I spend a majority of the time trying to figure out how to solve the problems, especially with FAR and BEC.

@gennatay They way Gleim has it broken down is this. You purchase the FAR section (or any):

    1. They mail you a hardcopy book

    2. You get online access

    3. They help you set up a study timetable based on how many hours per day you can study (can vary per day of the week) and how many days until your anticipated test.

    4. FAR is broken into 20 sub units

    5. For each subunit, you do the following:

    a. Take a multiple choice test as an assessment of where your knowledge is (before reading anything)

    b. Watch the video lectures or audiovisual presentations (powerpoint they read to you). One or the other, not both…

    c. Take a True/False quiz

    d. Read the subunit in either the physical book they sent you or the online version

    e. Take another multiple choice question

    f. Take two 20question “test prep” exams (multiple choice)

    g. Take up to 3 practice sims

    6. You do that for each of the 20 sub units in the FAR course

You also have access to a Sim wizard, and test prep pages where you can create your own exams in either an exam mode (grade at the end) or study mode (where you get instant feedback on the correct and incorrect answer).

So far I am liking it, but I am only in SU1 and haven't gotten my physical book yet

They also guarantee you will pass the test on the 1st try or you get your money back or access to the materials until you pass.

They have a few requirements on the guarantee, like you have to actually do a certain amount of work in the online system to show you are actually studying. You have to sit for the test 9 months from the purchase date in order for the guarantee. You will have to submit a copy of your score if you do not pass, plus some others, but it seems reasonable.
