O.K I just can’t do this review course I have. I am considering changing to either UWorld Roger CPA Review or yeager. My first mistake was going for the bells and whistles, but the bells are not ringing and the whistles is not blowing. But I am chalking up the 1769.00 spent on a complete course that is annoying and too bite sized. With that being said, I am changing Monday Morning! I am determined to pass far and get it over with. I have been using the wiley books and ninja notes but I really think I need the video lectures to go with.

So I am stuck, should I purchase in part or shell out again for the entire course.

    Don’t bother with becker I know I can’t afford it and I don’t have a company paying for me….I am my company.lol

I have not re- scheduled far yet, I was trying to get it in before the window close, but since I am not nearly close to covering all the materials I will wait til the 1st week of April. Until I get new materials (with your help) I am re-writing ninja notes and listening to audio.

You'll see equal people on here using both with different opinions.

Which do YOU prefer based on demos/price/options/etc?

I'm leaning toward Yaeger, I like roger because he is so funny. Yaeger fit my budget and I won't have to pay a renewal fee and all that so price wise it's a yes, but I don't know if I should spring for a full course of go one part at a time.

I passed with Yaeger, however I was thoroughly unimpressed with pretty much any subject that Cindy doesn't teach (I believe she only teaches FAR and BEC). Since you have to pass FAR, I'd suggest getting a single section video lecture from Yaeger because you'll see about 90% Cindy and 10% Phil and then you can know whether or not you are able to stand Phil for the other sections.

My biggest issue in general is that their whole program seems very unorganized. The handouts they send you are photocopies many times over, when they make a minor error in the lecture they'll just correct themselves or repeat themselves again without even bothering to edit out the part that had the error. I don't know… like I said, I did pass with it but it definitely is not something to get excited about.

Renewal fee: Im pretty sure upgrading to the next year's version incurs some sort of cost.

Well, I am trying seriously not to be in this position again. I want to pass and I will. I am taking the comments to heart. It is Monday and I need to make a decision right now. Well not right now, but I want to get it done by the end of the day. I definitely want a professional product.

@Jeff, I appreciatel all that you do. And I appreciate our insite. yoou can email me your personal opinion if you like. But I am determined to get this right. I wasted a year trying to learn this other course and simply frustrated with the results. Wasted test fees because I was not prepared and failed reg misserably because was not prepared.

Far Fam, this is not a lame post I need to get this right.

    @dodgerdawg, thanks…point taken….

Only you know this – but is it your old course's fault…or yours? Did you give 60% or 110%?

It's a rhetorical question…just consider it before you drop an iMac on a new course.

Would you rather have a new course or a 27″ iMac + Old Course? 🙂

May be your review course just isn't a right match for you & REG, but it might be great for the other tests. You might be better-off getting a different product just for REG. I liked Yaeger only for FAR & REG (no experience W/Roger)

If you only have problem areas, you may just need to supplement. Not trying to add more research, but Bisk has a great product called “Hot Spots” that nails individual topics/group of topics, and gives really helpful techniques to working problems.

Good luck. Hope you find what works for you.

great question :-0. Well it was my fault for not doing the research before I purchased the course or paid my test fees and I was not ready to take the test. I really tried and tried to figure out a way to make use of the course, but I just can't get with it. so …I don't know….point taken though

I've actually been struggling with this for weeks. I haven't shelled out anything yet, but for me I'm going to go cheapest to most expensive if needed. I would hate to shell out 3500 for becker, fail or even pass but know that I could have done just as good with a Wiley book and a little more effort. So finally I've decided to do this:

Round 1: Take all four first time with just the Wiley books/notes + 10pt package. That gives me plenty of bank questions, summary notes, audio notes plus detailed books if I have trouble with any topics and need to really nail down some of the more subtle material. I only plan to use the books for my trouble areas though, as I don't know if I have the patience to plow through a thousand pages of material per section. That puts my total price at around 800-1000 (depending on how much Wiley stuff I get) for all four parts.

Round 2: If I can get through round one with at least two passed then I plan to utilize my local community college for backup in my trouble areas of the remaining 1-2 exams. Audit and Tax are my natural weak areas, and they gear most of their higher level accounting courses towards CPA exam takers. It may not be as short as a Becker review but I figure for 150 bucks I can get 15 weeks of somebody reasonably qualified who is a CPA themselves (yeah I've done a little homework on this one), will answer my questions and be open for office hours, its much more bang for my buck.

Round 3: If round 2 doesn't work or I do that bad in round one (and I seriously hope this isn't necesary), then and only then do I plan to finally cave and take Becker for any remaining exam subjects.

Everybody is different but I figure for me, this approach will give me the best combination of exam experience and solid face to face work. Good luck OP.

PS…Jeff…Oh hell yeah I'm getting that iMac….but only if I get through round 1 with 2 exams passed 🙂

@tncincy According to your “bite sized” comment I believe that you and I have purchased the same course. I have taken these exams for the past 3 years without ONE pass using that course. I was too stubborn to listen to my co-workers (who know how smart I am) that I needed to invest in different study material. As soon as I quit wasting my time using that other software and started using NINJA notes and Wiley test bank I passed one, Audit with an 86!

I was also second guessing how much time I was putting into each exam and whether I was doing enough, which this course keeps track of it for you but only while you are in it. I was averaging 50-75 hours in the software and I was actually double that all together, yet I couldn't get a score beyond a 70. Something was wrong, and it wasn't me.

Smart of you to listen to yourself and know when it is time to go with something else.

Invest in the NINJA notes, Wiley test bank and Wiley book (can refer to for sticky areas). You put in the 100 hours for each part and you should see better scores.

Not all study materials work for everyone.

I have ninja notes, ninja audio and wiley test bank…my books are 2011 but I can get new books if necessary. I just don't want to put any more time into something that's just not working. I am willing to just use wiley but I find myself writing an aweful lot. Just looking for a better way to do this. Maybe I will just get one part instead of paying for the complete course. So I will make a decision…today.

my switch decision is YAEGER yeah!!!!!. I watched the demo's of both yaeger and roger. Roger is hilarious, but the reviews mentoned too past and leaving out too much so…but cindy of yaeger did what I was looking for and that was go over a few questions where I understood and STILL understand. The review about yaeger said that the handouts were unprofessional photo copies, so I hope I won't need them. I really don't need anymore books. I have plenty already.

I decided not to shell out 1800 for a complete course so I just got far to be safe. I will use it till I pass!!! Then move on to REG next.

Whewwwww, what a relief to get that done…
