This is probably a stupid question but is there anything that sticks out in your mind when you have grasped a concept. I am studying AUD and I just failed FAR and I am afraid I can do a mcq fine with memorizing but I am not sure if I am 100% getting the concept and knowing how to apply it. I guess it might be a matter of just know when you know it.

I think if you can determine why the wrong choices are wrong and why the right choice is right instead of just which one is the right choice then you are getting it. If you've seen the question before and remember the answer then try to recite why the answer is right. If you can do that before looking at the explanation then you're probably doing well. If your review course doesn't provide enough MCQ to keep you from memorizing them then you should consider getting a supplemental test bank. Ninja MCQ is only $47 for 3 month access. Tons of MCQ for each section and tons of SIMS.

In my experience, once I could explain the logic behind a particular concept, I knew I had it. I'm a puzzle person, so to me it was like figuring out where the piece went and why it fit in its particular spot.

Aside from the Ninja MCQs that Mamabear mentioned (highly recommended), Google is your best friend. Especially on tax topics – there are a lot of great journals out there with articles that explain just about anything you could imagine. It might go a little more in depth than what you need for the exam, but it should help you understand it better.
