if so, how did you do that? 😀

Sacrificing sleep. Sticking to your macros (with perhaps a moderate increase in carbs).

I was working about 60 hours a week and still found time to work out 4-5 times a week for 2 hours each time. I would try to get in 30 minutes to an hour of studying before my workout, and during my sets I would mentally (or sometimes out loud) recite mnemonics and journal entries.

I was able to pass all 4 parts in 3 months so it was a small sacrifice to pay for only 5-6 hours of sleep a night. Overall, no noticeable loss of gains. I did have to increase my carb intake and take an extra half-scoop to a whole scoop of pre-workout some days to have enough energy to make it through the workout. Also, it helps that I live 2 blocks from the gym.

Come up with a routine and stick to it. I was able to keep working out while I studied and I work full time. My routine including studying one hour at lunch during the week, getting home at 5:30 and getting on the treadmill by 5:45 to do a quick 5 mile run, then cooking dinner and studying an additional hour. On the weekend, I got up early, studied 2 hours, went for a run, then studied 2 more hours. You have to be very self disciplined and rigid when it comes to your routine.

When I was studying for AUD I skipped my regular schedule of working out three times a week because I feel guilty not studying during my yoga sessions. I found that I get tired more easily and I feel burnt out by the end of the week. I told myself, If I pass AUD, I will never sacrifice working out ever again.

So what I do is I study 3 hours on MON,WED,FRI after work.I work out on TUE & THUR and go to sleep early to recuperate. I Study 1 hour in the morning of WED & FRI.

On weekends, I work out for one hour SAT and Study 5-6 hours on SAT & SUN.

I have more energy this way and I seem to absorb lectures easier. I also retain more information this way.

Another option is to look for more efficient workouts so that you can get the most workout per minute (so to speak). This is my personal favorite right now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5TzGhppc0M It's Capoiera (martial arts) conditioning exercises. I get more worn out and more results from 15 minutes of this than 45 minutes or 1 hour of anything else! Also the fact that you can do it at home saves the time traveling to and from the gym, and you can about get an entire workout in the time to travel to the gym for some people. However, I'm not a big gym fan. 🙂

Note: If your goal is mass-building, don't use the workout I linked. Martial arts is usually about low-mass muscle, so martial arts conditioning – while very strengthening and very good for your body – will not make you look bulky at all. That's part of why I like it cause I don't think I would look good bulky but I do like to be strong, and this lets me get both at the same time. 🙂

I take zumba classes Tues/Thurs/Saturday, and walk to and from work. I almost count my walking as study, because its Ninja Audio all the way both ways, but the Zumba is my time, and I count it as necessary or I would go insane.

Pretty simple. Don't eat like garbage. You don't have the 3 hours in the day to spend in the gym to work off that 1,200 calorie burger and fries you ate for lunch.

Some of us can eat right and still gain weight and/or not lose weight due to stress. 😐 I've found that a single workout over the weekend produces weight loss (which I'm in need of) for the next few days, while eating the exact same as I do in weeks without the workout. Speaking of, I should be doing a workout today before the weekend is over….

    LOL, Skynet!

I'm with Lindrobe about setting a schedule and sticking to it. I go work out right after work and do some strength training or Pilates, plus a Zumba class like Northernlights, which is a great stress reducer. You can just dance to the music and zone out and forget all about the CPA exam for that hour. It's really nice. Like Lilla, I'll gain weight if I'm not working out no matter how well I eat, so I try not to feel guilty about the time spent at the gym. I think it makes you a more efficient studier anyway, so it's a good investment in yourself and the process. Then due to the workout, I have the energy to come home and study.

I love working out & made a point to when studying for FAR but with my last test being two weeks away and work being insanely busy, I just don't have time. I know I could wake up early but I just can't do it. I am just really looking forward to going back to spin class in September!

I was wondering about this as well. I'm hoping to have the entire exam finished by my first day so I can free up some time to get some exercise. I'm an avid runner. I start next month and sit for my last section in a few weeks so hopefully I can put this exam behind me and not have to even worry about doing it while working.

i try to work out 3-4 times a week and i work 40 hours a week and am studying probably around 30-35 hours a week as well. i just do it right after work and go running for around 45 mins, come home, shower and then hit the books until bedtime. it seems to help keep me sane!

I workout during lunch 4 days a week. There were a couple of months where I dropped down to 2 days a week because I just couldn't get everything in but now things are pretty normal (I moved TWICE this summer). I come back to work completely soaked with sweat, wait about 30 minutes, and change back into my work clothes. I've been doing it since I graduated from college 10 years ago and at this particular job for 4.5 years so everyone is used to it. I try to schedule all meetings in the morning though ;-).

Even though it's not the best situation, there is something about getting a real break halfway during the day.
