Has anyone quit their job to pursue the exam and still received unemployment?

I’m assuming there are people out there that have tried, has anyone been successful?

Per my research you may receive unemployment if you have “good cause” to leave your job, amongst some other things.

For those of you who have tried this what have you said/ not said?

Any input is appreciated, thanks for your help!

Studying for an exam is not “good cause” to quit a job. Why can't you work and study?

I agree with mla1169. Even if you initially get unemployment, you'll just have to pay it back eventually as it doesn't seem like just cause to me…

what if you were to say something along the lines of, you were overly stressed trying to do both. or simply leave the exam part out and say you left bc of mental stress? then study while you are actively looking for a new job

By good cause they mean you're being harrassed, feel unsafe, etc.

If you're overly stressed doing both, don't take the exam. I just don't “get” the mentality of people who think they can't handle both.

    Absolutely not!

Also, I passed 1 out of 5 exams when I was not working at all and done with college, and passed 2/2 while working FT. Taking my last one while working as well.

I quit my job at a CPA firm and have been studying for the exams ever since. Less than a year, and I'm almost done! Yeah, I'm broke as a joke. But not for long 😉

Note: I didn't quit in order to study, but I didn't search for a job immediately because I figured I might as well get this over with first.

I passed all 4 in just under a year. f/t job, 2 kids, p/t retail job and taking classes online. Stress is what you allow it to be, and no more.
