Has anyone scored Comparable on both MC AND Sims and still failed??

    As I read through some threads and see people posting their Performance Reports, I’m finding it very interesting. I’ve seen people get Weaker on MC and Stronger on Sims and pass. I’ve seen people get Stronger on MC and Weaker on Sims and fail. And there are even some that got Stronger on MCQs and Weaker on Sims and still pass. I’ve even seen one person that got Comparable on MC and Weaker on the Written Communication on BEC and still failed even though the WC is only worth 15 points. It’s all over the place.

    I have yet to see someone say that they’ve failed even though they’ve scored Comparable on both MCQs and Sims. Has this happened to anyone? Just curious.

    I remember seeing a post that they received comparable on MCQ & Sims and failed…they were about to jump off the ledge.

    BEC (11/10) 77 (Bisk)
    FAR 7/2 - 63 11/5 - 80 (Yeager - Fail, Becker - Pass)
    Reg (08/11) - 78 (Yeager)
    Aud - 11/29 - 78(Yeager)

    @CPAMAN,

    I agree with you the scoring is all over the place. Check out this thread: https://www.another71.com/cpa-exam-forum/topic/study-plans-of-attack-i-need-help

    I posted my score report from a 74 I got in Audit and MyLife posted the report from his 74. Same score, different score report. I think it just sums up the fact that the grading process is not clear and simple at all.

    I personally haven't gotten a comparable on both and failed. That would be a hard pill to swallow.

    Yeah, that's weird. I guess I'm just going to have to aim high and try to get Stronger on both MCQs and Sims. Unless of course, there's someone out there that failed even though they performed Stronger on both. In that case, this grading process is not as clear cut as people think it is.

    @cpaman,

    I think it shows that the harder questions are really valuable in the end. I am guessing that I got more basic questions right (i.e. less points) and more difficult questions wrong. So, I probably had 3 medium testlets. After typing that it seems more evident that the first testlet sets the pace for sure. I hope I can swing it this time with REG.

    I'm not sure its possible to get comparable on both and fail. The comparable score is comparing you to candidates who scored between 75-80. If you are comparable to a passing score on both the MCQ and sims, how could you fail?

    I assumed the Stronger/Comparable/Weaker performances are determined based on points, not # of questions. In that case, that puts a whole new light on things…

    IMO the score report is useless. you could have done well on an area but just because 40% of the other candidates did better than you, your weaker

    REG-65,71,74,73,70,74,79
    BEC-60's,60's,69,71,76*,78
    FAR-67,66,65,79
    AUD-54,60's,65,83*,69,80
    *expired

    DONE

    @nolifecpa – Here's the thing. If 40% of the other candidates do better than you did, then you didn't do well in that area (even if you think you did). It's all relative.

    I had a 74 on BEC with MCQs-comparable and WCs-weaker.

    I've got stronger on MCQs and weaker on SIMs = 74

    @Xenia

    Audit sims have more weight.

    Just looked my report on AUD with score 67 and it's “stronger on MCQs and weaker on SIMs” too. Ha, ha, very helpful.

    @Minimorty- I don't think it is possible, but sometimes, you never know. So, I figured I'd ask out of curiosity.

    I'm still wondering why on my REG exam, I got Comparable on the MCQs and Weaker on Sims and got a 74, and yet a number of people here got Stronger on MCQs and Weaker on Sims and also got 74. If we both did poorly on the Sims but another person did better than me on the MCQs, shouldn't those other people get 75+?? I mean, how hard can that one point be if the other candidate did significantly better than me on a MC portion of the exam that's worth 60 points. I'm just trying to figure out this grading process.

    when i got 74 i was comparable in MCQ and weaker in SIMS

    when i got 70 i was stronger in MCQ and weaker in SIMS

    who knows how they grade these exams, who cares?
