Has anyone seen my motivation? It seems to be missing…

My Becker REG class is done, but I’m only a little more than halfway through the material. Now that school has started for my kids (as well as dance, boy scouts, cotillion… and the list goes on) and audit season has come early at my firm this year, I am seriously lacking motivation at work and with studying – and just generally burned out on all fronts. I had wanted to try for the EWS, but I’m finding it difficult to get through REG, let alone FAR that is up next. Its not that the material is bad – I’m just ready to go back to having a life again (just like everyone else on here).

I had a week like this with BEC, but was able to get through it. Its been a week and a half with REG and my motivation has not returned, nor is it anywhere in sight. I plan on taking REG the second week of Oct and FAR in mid to late Nov. Any suggestions on getting through this lull would be wonderful and much appreciated.

    AUD - 99
    BEC - 97
    REG - 91
    FAR - 1/8/16

hey rzr, i'm a little over halfway done with reg also and I feel you. How do you plan on reviewing for this with kids and work? 8) I need some tips since I start working full time next week. I've only done mostly hw and read the chapters. I left the lectures for review and i've done sims for 1 and 2 only.

I wish I could give you some advice on the motivation but I have no idea what its like to work and do these at the same time. Take a day to take a break or what motivated me recently after I was feeling burned out also, was knowing that my friend who is studying far is like FLYING through her material and doing way better than I was. Somehow that motivated me to finish Reg as soon as i can also. try to think that you don't want to fail it so give it your all while you can and soon it will be over with. 🙂

    BEC - 81 4/08/14
    FAR - 80 8/25/14 Thank you Jesus!
    REG - 69 (Nov 14),80 1/08/15 Thank God!
    AUD - 70 (May 14), xx 5/1/15

I definitely wish I was one of those people who got all 4 exams done in 4 months, but unfortunately LIFE (being a newlywed, stress, adjusting to newlywed life and cpa exam study life, as well as starting a job with a Big4 which I am very happy about) got in the way, just happy that I am passing period!!

I am in the same boat. I just passed my first exam and my BEC retake is in 5 weeks. I have been listening to Ninja Audio and I have done some MCQ but I'm having a hard time ramping up. School (kids) and life is so busy right now. I wake up at 4:30 to workout, work all day and put my last child to bed at 9pm. The weekends are very busy but it wasn't much different when I did REG just a few weeks ago. I am going to listen to 1 hour of Tony Robbins audio tonight.

Your scores are amazing! Will you get $$ for getting the EWS? I think it would be cool to have accomplished that but I wouldn't judge you at all if you toned down your studies and just passed… Lol. You are doing amazing with working and kids! I honestly don't know how you are managing. You are obviously very smart and determined! What an amazing role model for your kids. I have no doubt you can do whatever you put your mind to. Good luck!

    FAR - 7/13 - 72, 11/13- 74, 2/14- 82!!! Best score ever (for me)!!!
BEC - 1/14 - 75!!! Perfect score! First Pass! YAY!!!
    AUD - 8/14 - 80!!!
    REG - 5/14 - 72, 10/14 - 66, 1/15 - 78 - DONE FOREVER!!!
I did 5 of the UNA and CPAExcel classes to earn units.

My eyes are glazed over from FAR, @rzr

    You aren't the only one

You guys are great! Seriously. Those three letters are huge motivation and just thinking of how proud my kids will be when I'm done (well, at least the oldest) is motivation to get back in there and get it done.

StephAV, no money for me, but I've had some pretty despicable things said to me about not having my CPA by people both in my firm (I currently manage CPAs) and outside my firm (I've reviewed their work or managed their work), so to have those three letters plus the EWS would be icing on the cake.

    AUD - 99
    BEC - 97
    REG - 91
    FAR - 1/8/16

I wouldn't worry too much. Based off of your two previous scores you will do just fine. In the end nobody cares about your score, just whether you passed or not.

With an AUD score of 99 you should understand the risk of assessing REG difficulty too high (efficiency) and risk of assessing REG difficulty too low (effectiveness) and you should be able to create your own study plan accordingly…

(AKA it don't matter if you get a 75 or 100, just get it done)

Gald to hear I'm not the only one. Struggling so bad studying for REG… No motivation to the past two weeks but starting to get the mojo and sense of urgency back the closer October comes.

@Kricket… Touché!!! I have to hand it to you… Three letters and enough said… Becker might contact you for Olinto's job.

@rzr… Keep going and know your not the only one who has faced the undue criticism. Once this is finished… There will be no excuses or charges for others to levy. This accomplishment will just widen the gap especially with your scores. Just a little more motivation.

@Nick… so glad I got FAR out of the way first. Now you know why I mentioned there are no real focus areas in FAR… there's just too much content. Keep going… Everything will come around just like the others. At least that's what I'm telling myself.

    FAR 84 (7/24/14)
    BEC 87 (8/28/14)

    Ethics 98 (1/19/15)
