Have MSA, would MBA ever be necessary later down the road?

Potentially silly question here, I recently graduated with an MSA from a strong program and started in Big 4 audit. I guess my grand scheme is to eventually make it into an upper management position somewhere, and I realize managers at F500 companies typically have MBAs. I have absolutely no intention of ever going back to school if possible, and there’s a ton of overlap between my school’s MSA and MBA programs to begin with. Does anyone know if people with a masters in accounting typically would need an MBA later on in their career to break into upper management positions, or would that be completely redundant?

After reading this – I would say the chapter on the cost of an MBA should be a must-read for anyone considering it.

The Personal MBA: Master the Art of Business

    AUD - 79
    BEC - 80
    FAR - 76
    REG - 92

Thanks for the post Jeff! Book actually looks really interesting, I may just order it. The description makes getting an MBA sound like currently pursuing a law degree haha

    I was a university employee so I got a huge discount for my MBA….otherwise I wouldn't pay for it….

I am pretty sure that MSA + CPA is more than enough, especially when you add the Big 4 experience to it!

    FAR: 81 (May 2013)
    BEC: 81 (July 2013)
    REG: 83 (August 2013)
    AUD: 82 (November 2013)
    California CPA since 1/30/14
