Have the Ninja Notes gotten you over the hump?

    Hi all,

I am new to the forums but have been browsing them since I started taking the CPA exam this passed January. My story goes I failed Reg in January with a 71, then came back with a vengeance and passed with an 85 in July. I now have until March 2015 before that expires. I just took AUD on 10/7 and although I came out of it feeling pretty good, I only wound up with a 64, which crushed me because I really felt I passed. I attribute it to not really reading much of the textbook, just skimming through it and not really reading it slowly and letting the material sink in. I mostly studied for auditing by getting the multiple choice questions wrong and taking notes and trying them a second, third and fourth time. I do think this is what did me in on this exam, maybe I was able to answer Becker’s questions, but come exam day, a lot of the multiple choice questions I felt were worded a lot different than how Becker presented them. Maybe I got them wrong because I didn’t understand the concepts as much as I was just being able to answer the practice questions. And since there is virtually no math on AUD, I think it’s important to know the concepts in and out.

I am in the middle of studying for BEC (which I started studying for right after I took the Audit exam) and will take it on Dec 6, using the extended window. Since I got my score back Monday, I have gone back to doing what I did for REG, reading the textbook going slowly with it until it sinks. I also purchased the ninja notes on Sunday. I have read them for the IT section and now am using them for Economics. I have been reading the Becker textbook and keeping the notes at my side and going through each topic in the chapter along with the notes and it does seem to help. I am also planning on keeping the notes with me and reading them a few times on my own. My question is have the notes helped you go from failing one topic to you feeling like they helped you pass the next time around? I am so annoyed at my audit score that I want to do better and get that 99 on my first crack at BEC and of course get some revenge on Audit in January.

I also want to say that although I talk to my wife about the exam and some people from work (most who have already passed and don’t really have much to say about it anymore other than it just sucks lol), this forum makes me feel like I’m going through this with a whole bunch of people. I wish everybody the best of luck and hope you all crush this thing.

    Hi digi,

Yes, I highly recommend buying the Ninja notes. I used them for REG and I saw an improvement of 9 points. I just like them because they are straightforward. Sometimes the book is so wordy and having another perspective or example helps when you are studying. What I like to do is print the notes and create a binder. I use Wiley study materials and the Ninja notes match the Wiley chapters. Once I create a binder, I add my own notes at the end of each chapter of concepts that I am having a hard time understanding and I noticed that this has helped me. I learn by writing down, reading, and doing multiple choice and I found this method works for me. Best of luck!!

I am actually going to buy the FAR Ninja notes today and head to Staples for printing. Got to love this CPA exam :0(

    AUD - PASSED
    REG - PASSED

My great concern is not whether you have failed, but whether you are content with your failure.
