Having a 'letdown' after passing REG

9 months and 5 attempts later, I finally passed my first exam: REG. I was ecstatic that I passed because I’ve been at this for almost a year and I finally passed an exam. I started studying for BEC, but my motivation to study has plummeted, which is strange because I’ve always been able to muster energy to get back to the books after every fail. Anyone else get like this after passing? Where do you find motivation when you’ve been at it for awhile yet still have a long way to go?

    Passed all sections.

Kls238, was in the same boat with ya: back in the day when I first started taking CPA exams, I failed FAR 4 times! and due to that, my 3 passed sections expired! Where did I find motivation? – easy: having a CPA license is, nowadays, one of the requirements to get a decent salary in Cali )) motivated me reaaal quick!

one last exam score to wait for......
    FAR - 78
    BEC - 84
    AUD - 92
    REG - 88

Do you want the 9 months you spent on REG to go to waste? All that lost time with family, friends, your hobbies, etc etc. That's usually how I try to look at it. The best thing is that this motivation technique only gets more motivating with more time and more tests passed.

It sounds like you've been using your failures and the drive to get over those and finally pass as your motivation, so now that you've actually passed, you're not sure what to do– the struggle has ended! You probably need a mental break. Take a short time off to heal yourself. But keep it short (2 weeks?). That 18 month clock is ticking now.

This may not work for everyone, but what helps me focus is getting organized and coming up with a plan. Print out a calendar and map out where you want to be on your next tests– design a plan so that you have adequate time to study for each one, and time for retakes. You don't want to lose this pass!

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

Thanks, everyone! I went out of down for a mini one day vacation. I didn't look at any CPA stuff for once. I feel refreshed and ready to ‘hit the books' tomorrow. I can't lose this pass!

    Passed all sections.

Think about how you will feel when you lose REG after all your hard work because of procrastination! Take a day or two off then hit the books on your next section. If that and a lot of wasted dollars don't motivate you, then maybe it's not for you. How bad do you want to be a CPA??

Challenge yourself to pass the next one on the first try. Good luck

Baxter, don't take this the wrong way, but you're number of BEC attempts scares me. I need a 15 point increase. Was the 10 point and notes the reason you finally made it through?

    Passed all sections.

BEC shouldn't take much studying especially fi your taking it in July do 10 hours a week at first then slowly creep up.

I've taken 2 parts and passed 2 parts and don't have the motivation to study.

Kls238: Don't be afraid…my issue was medical. But to answer your question, the 10 point combo and a wonderful hematologist is what got me over the hump on the exams. I passed BEC twice (75, 84) so it is definitely doable! Good luck to you.

@KLS, I think being dedicated to having your license is more important than being motivated about it. You just must keep going at it even when you are down and not motivated and you will make it through. I am lacking motivation but still studying! Good luck to all of us!
