Greetings! I am new to this forum and a recent college grad using Becker to study FAR. Oh goodness…it is tough. I am in a bad job and need to keep at it for the money and experience. I am not able to study aggressive but am trying to study about 10 hours a week I am re-reviewing F1, F2 and F3 before moving on. I am planning to take this section of the CPA in November. I graduated Summa Cum Laude but am finding some of this material to be challenging.

Any suggestions about what I am doing and what else I can do? I think that reworking homework problems and some book review of the concepts is good, maybe some review of the simulations. I need to carefully allocate time as time is lacking.

Also, I heard that the CPA MC questions are not as bad as Becker but that the simulations on the actual exam are worse.

Any pointers given my position would be greatly appreciated. I truly want to get my CPA but I am not in a good spot now with work.

Thank you all very much! Happy to be here….

    James

Get your study hours up to at least 20/week. Ten a week isn't likely to give a good result. Shoot for 2 hours on weekdays and 5 on weekend days.

If you study for too long this can negatively affect you. You will start to forget the earlier material. I would suggest increasing your study time per week and taking it beginning of October. I think realistically September is better but their is no testing that month.

I have found it much better to study for a shorter period of time. I study 8 hours a day, and since that isn't possible with your job, I would try for at lease 8 hours on weekends and 2-3 hours during the week when you work, which will get you around 26 hours a week. I wouldn't spend more than 8 weeks studying for one section- as stated above, it will start to negatively impact you as you forget the earlier material. I have found that moving quickly is the best way to study for this exam.

Don't over study though. You don't have to know every detail. November is way too far off too. I would shoot for end of August or early October at the latest.

P.S. Summa Cum Laude is more expected these days than exemplary.
